A copperhead snake was left dead after getting a taste of ‘claw enforcement’ from a cat who protected her 81-year-old owner from the unwanted venomous intruder.

The incident took place in Speedwell, Tennessee last week, where Jimmie Nelson lives with Shelly, his adopted shelter cat.

Nelson says he heard a noise in the middle of the night. At the time, he thought it was just Shelly being playful.

Two days later, however, he realized what the commotion was about.

I have a family of Harris's Hawks that are living in my yard. Bonus! They eat rattlesnakes. Haven't seen one since they moved in.

A pitbull pup died last week tangling with a coral snake. Wonder how the cat did it without getting bit? I know cats are silent stalkers, but rattlers rest on a hair-trigger.

Every once in a while I see a Hawk or an Owl flying through the air with a snake. Those owls are pretty effective predators. Grabbing kittens and small dogs is child’s play.

“Wonder how the cat did it without getting bit? “

cats have amazing reflexes and are amazingly fast ... if you’ve ever seen a couple of house cats fighting they look exactly like those cartoon blurs of fighting animals ...

“Shelly, his adopted shelter cat.”

Great. Good, brave cat.

The guy saved the cat’s life by adopting it, now the cat saved his life.

“Every once in a while I see a Hawk or an Owl flying through the air with a snake”

i saw an eagle taking off from my backyard with a giant snake dangling in its claws: it looked EXACTLY like the reverse image on Mexican silver coins ...

That cat’s not dumb, it knew if that snake killed its owner, he would have ended up out in the street again or back at the animal shelter. Besides, it’s just a matter of time before the cat decides to smother the old guy in his sleep then eat him.........

I don’t buy that.

The snake was getting into the cat’s territory.

Perhaps the Lord brought the cat into the situation but I’m sure the cat acted out of hunting instincts rather than any protective instincts.

And for the few folks who haven’t seen it, here’s the video of a cat saving a small boy from a dog attack.
