Texas woman says potential employer shamed her over bikini photo
NBC News ^ | October 3, 2019 | By Minyvonne Burke and Courtney Brogle

A Texas woman said she was shamed online by a potential employer who took a photo of her in a bikini from her Instagram account and shared it on the company's page while warning other applicants that it was unprofessional.

Emily Clow, who according to her Twitter account lives in Austin, said she applied for a marketing coordinator position at a business startup, Kickass Masterminds.

Clow told NBC News that shortly after applying, a company representative reached out to her and said the firm wanted to move ahead with the application process and recommended that she follow them on Instagram. Hoping to improve her chances of landing the position, she did.

But as she was scrolling through the company's Instagram story, Clow said she saw a photo of herself in a red two-piece bathing suit with a warning message to potential applicants.

Clow said the company had swiped the photo from her personal Instagram account, and when she saw it she was shocked.

"You don't expect a potential employer to do something like this," she told NBC. "To have someone that seems really intrigued and wants to meet with you, only to see this is shocking."

Since Clow's post has gone viral, the company's website and social media pages appear to have been taken down.

I side with the employer. Its a warning sign. Don’t need potential sex problems at the office. Its just not worth the risk.

Sooo..the employer used a photo that did NOT ID her (no face) and SHE is the one who caused any problem to herself by self-IDing? Sorry, but no laws were broken here. Be an attention whore, expect to get attention. The employer had a valid point. Millenial morons gonna be morons.

My only advice to her vis-a-vis her pics would be:

“If you’re gonna post bikini photos, get some muscles and a few more pounds on that chicken-arse figure FIRST!”

She looks like she’s brilliant at marketing.

She’s also very not guilty.

Not really my type but I give her multiple thumbs-up for apparently not defacing herself with tattoos.

As for her case, I suppose it depends on how public those photos were. I don’t agree with employers checking applicants out on social media but I also think it is dumb for people to post any revealing photos believing they will never be seen.

Those beach pictures can come back to bite you. You can hire the guys at the photomat booth to edit them, though.

I can see your point and it makes sense.

I was just trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, that maybe after she is hired, she can be reasonable and stop the nonsense.

But, considering that there are plenty of qualified job applicants, you don’t want to take chances.

Not guilty, but it is a fairly stupid looking bikini. She could have picked something far more flattering.

Women make a lot of money on Instagram. Some bukini company will pay her lots of money to wear their bikinis and assorted clothes. Hair and makeup companies will pay too..

Two thoughts on this article.

1. She's a good looking woman, and she knows it and apparently wants to make sure everybody else knows it as well. Not sure I'd want somebody like that at the office unless she brought some other overwhelming skill set that couldn't be had elsewhere.

2. It's laughable for a business calling itself "Kickass Masterminds to claim for itself the high ground of professional virtue and propriety.

This whole episode should be titled, "When Attention Whores Collide."

Exactly why, back in the 40’s and 50’s, it was common for single men to always have a supply of paper bags on hand...

OTOH, it could be just a manufactured controversy.

A publicity stunt, one might say, to benefit both parties in some way or another.
