The final home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright will go up for auction

Norman Lykes house, designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, will be up for auction on Oct. 16. It was the last residence designed by Wright, who designed many iconic homes, including "Fallingwater" in Pennsylvania, as well as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City.

The home was last listed for $2.65 million by The Agency, but it has been on and off the market since 2016. The Phoenix, Arizona, home will be auctioned off, regardless of price, by Heritage Auctions.

"Curved lines in the home play off the curves of the Phoenix Mountains, and the cantilevered roofline provides natural shade on the south-facing façade," Brent Lewis, director of design for Heritage Auctions, says. "The windows never see direct sun, yet the house is light and bright."

Throughout the home, there is mahogany woodwork and built-in furniture. The terrace pool, which overlooks Palm Canyon and the valley, is lined with mother-of-pearl.

Never fond of his work. Toooooo artful. A home should feel like a home.

This one I like. It's also a bit reminiscent of the awesome house from "Diamonds are Forever"

I was visiting a friend who lives above and near where the I-90 floating bridge enters Seattle, and there were these two houses across the street that had a very familiar look. I said they looked an awfully lot like Frank Lloyd Wright designs. He said “that’s because they are.”

I’ve always been a huge fan of his work and consider him the father of open spaces in home design. But I also think a lot of his cutting edge visual designs were not very structurally sound, or had a lot of problems with leaking roofs, etc.

Some of the homes he built in Michigan are very tastefully done.

The furniture, not so much, but the defensible position with firing ports.....mmmmmmmmm

As a ‘bigun’ the usonian homes would be uncomfortable, but this, with the location......

Falling Water is nice. This, not so much. I’m sure it will sell for a premium.

Is that a private residence, or an Observatory?

No matter how hard I try, I cantilever.

P.S. The second best place to see FLW works is the campus of Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL.

The tar paper flashing around the chimney (third photo) is both ugly, and tells me the house has a severe leaking problem.

Murdoch Mysteries did an episode with him. They built an exterior and interior to try to match what he would have built in Canada had he built one there

Murdoch installed a life size walk in potato cooker aka microwave and it killed a rival of Frank Lloyd Wright

I too like his prairie style homes. The Usionion not so much. There is a Usionion house for sale here in Manchester, NH. It is built into the side of solid granite hill. Cool, but not my style. https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/frank-lloyd-wright-house-new-hampshire-for-sale I like the Darwin Martin house in Buffalo. http://www.martinhouse.org/
