Amazon AMZN, -0.08% is building a series of new devices where we can wear Alexa in our ears, over our eyes, around our fingers, and keep her (it?) in our pocket. As a result, Alexa can be affordably plugged into every room in our home, accompany us in our vehicle, become our hi-fi sound system, keep order to our daily meal planning and simplify Wi-Fi around the house.
With this expanded offering, we are going to see Alexa adoption grow fast and Amazons consumer data grow even faster.
Early in 2019, Amazon touted a vague but inspiring number of 100 million Alexa-powered devices sold. Now not every one of these were made by Amazon, but all the other companies are paying to license its technology. And so now we order those Kleenex, accessories and an endless stream of unnecessariness by just saying the word. Dont believe me? I have an extra fire pit and about 100 Clif bars I never intend to eat. Thanks, Alexa.
So dont scoff at the idea of Alexa-powered eyeglasses or a stylish ring (Echo Loop) that you can talk to and that sends a quick jolt to let you know you have new notification.
Suddenly users will have three or four Alexa devices per person, per household, and that 100 million quickly grows to more than a billion devices, all of which track, monitor and offer immediate gratification of our every need. They will order our groceries, book our dinner reservation, play our favorite songs and more.
All this will feed the data machine that enables Amazon to know even more about what we listen to, who we call, where we go to dinner, our favorite travel destinations and, well, pretty much everything.

Ima gonna hack your Alexa and turn on your light.
“”Not in my house it wont.””
You beat me to it...not here either...The most modern device I have in my house is a computer and a Consumer Cellular phone tucked in my purse for emergencies. If we don’t have a power outage, it never comes out of the purse!
What are all these fools going to do if they get what they want when they aren’t able to charge any of their toys? Does AOC use a cell phone? Or the know it all darling puke from Sweden?
Exactly how does it work? What do you need to set it up?
“”I see the writing on the wall though, there will become a time when they are mandatory and it will be illegal go out the front door without one.””
I thought of the same thing - mandatory!! So sue me!
Or in mine.
“”Your door is ajar. Your door is ajar.””?
I remember the commercials as I never had a car that did that but I always said, “No a door is not a jar - it’s a car.”
Didn’t open it because my PC wants to - what is it about?
Only if you let it. I bought one about three years ago and I never really used it to it full potential. Most of the time I keep it turned off as I found it could listen in if you did not regardless of what Bezos said.
About the only time I use it is in the mornings, I have it in the kitchen, I turn it on and listen to Dr. Michael Savage’s podcast from the previous day to see what he has to say, after about 15 or 20 minutes that it and i turn it off.
I just saw where Samuel L. Jackson now will be available for those that want him along with his cursing and ghetto act he does, just can’t wait.
Not in my house. Refuse to get one! Don’t want one!
Please don't. The plug is connected to my portable respirator....I'll die if you do it.
I like some technology (here I am on my Kindle and connected to the www) to do things I can’t do, or can’t do as easily, without it. But there are plenty of things I learned to do in the dark ages in hi-tech or even no-tech ways, which I still do, and no one else knows about them who doesn’t need to know.
There was a post here the other night about the high-tech internet-connected toilet, that reminded me of when I was a kid and had to use an outhouse at grandma’s farm. Grandma never saw the need for a toilet inside until she got older and my dad and uncles convinced her to put one in. I liked that better, and that technology still does it for me.

Me too, I have Siri turned off on my phone and Ipad. I don’t need her.
When I have a long layover in Incheon or Narita I normally seek out a group of Vietnamese probably waiting for the same flight as I am and lively conversation passes the time. This trip I sought out such a group and found all of them on smartphones. No one talks face to face anymore.
