ORLANDO, Fla. (CNN/WKMG) A Florida grandmother was shocked to find out her 6-year-old granddaughter had been arrested Thursday for throwing a tantrum.
Meralyn Kirkland says Kaias journey to the juvenile detention center by Orlando Police Officers began at Lucious and Emma Nixon Elementary charter school.
What do you mean she was arrested, he said there was an incident and she kicked somebody and she is being charged and she is on her way,' Kirkland explained.
The disorienting chaos was too much for Kirkland to process.
She has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved and he says, what medical condition, she has a sleep disorder, sleep apnea, and he says, well I have sleep apnea and I dont behave like that.
First grader Kaia was handcuffed and carted off where Kirkland says she was fingerprinted and even had a mug shot taken.

ARTH PING
You can always recognize a child that is never told no at home.
Where are the mother and the father?
Bring back the knuckle-rub!
I admit she is being raised by grandma, has possible health problems but in my day she would have been sent to the Principals office for this! In my day you did not want sent there! Mrs. Ross had her paddle just waiting for BS like this and she used it. The schools have also lost control if they have to call the police for things Mrs. Ross could have taken care of in my day.
God Bless you Mrs. Ross where ever you are.
The “board of education.”
Where are the mother and the father?
You can say that about any kid whose parents are out of the house as soon as the kid is 6 months old. Grandmothers are raising kids, strangers at day care its rampant.
Thats just in intact families.forget the majority where the father has nothing to do with the mother and child. Society allows for both.
Kids are in a constant state of grieving the loss of their mothers. Its manifested in many ways. The grandmother could do something about making this child behave but she is angry at something. Probably the absence of her mother
“She has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved”
Well then keep her at home because no one else has applied to be a caseworker for an ill-behaved brat.
“A Florida grandmother”
And might I ask why are we hearing from you and not the PARENTS?
A child with sleep apnea??? I’ll bet she’s obese as well as having a lot of other problems.
My guess is daddy is unknown but probably in prison, dead or just a hood rat that knocks up girls one after the next. Mom is a drug addict/hooker, and/or barely a teen herself. Not uncommon for the offspring in these situations to get dumped off on grandma to raise, many of these grandmas still in their 30s.
Incompetent school staff and police. Why in the world would they arrest a 6 year old for tantrum?! This is idiotic. All of the involved staff and police should be fired immediately!!!
When you don’t allow teachers to actually discipline children, all they have left is chaos and calling in state enforcers.
They call the cops because teachers and principals are not allowed to touch the little darlings or lawyers will line up to sue.
By touch, I mean psycally restrain or punish. The “board of education” is a relic of the past that should be resurrected.
Mrs. Ross had her paddle just waiting for BS like this and she used it.
Phone call home, “I can paddle him or you can come and get him”.
Now, no one paddles and even suspensions are discouraged except for the most outrageous offenses.
The names of the people and even the name of the school pretty much lets you know who is doing what to whom. A medical condition, indeed.
Why on Earth are cops involved in this? She should be disciplined by the school, not the criminal justice system.
