The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
It is good and sweet enough. It’s one of my regular rotating breakfasts. Plus I do it in the microwave and measure. 1/3 cup oats and 2/3 cup water. 1200 watt microwave. 3 minutes 50 seconds at 50 percent. Comes out perfect every time. Plus I use a microwave bowl cozy so no mess.
If it’s homemade ice cream I would agree it’s right up there.
Rain - UGH! 2” that we did NOT need! Sunny today, and cool-ish.
I’ll take it! :)
You’ve been busy! Best of luck on the land sale! We have ONE more payment to make and the house and 48 acres are paid for! Yay! (112 acres still on an ag mortgage, but it pays for itself through renting it out.)
Something is up because we keep getting flyers from real estate agents about wanting to buy our property - and that’s never happened before.
I guess it’s a miracle when someone finally has mortgage-free property? There is a REASON to go into retirement with no debt, Duh! ;)
I wonder how that gnocchi recipe would do with squash instead of sweet potatoes?
Seems it could be modified into a dessert pretty easily, too.
............might work.......you’d have to tweak the recipe a bit..........
Peppers, and some tomatoes still going.
First year container gardening...and I like it.
My asparagus crowns did excellent.
Anyone here do Bonsai?
Looked very pretty too!!
Nice. I have had that poured over a block of cream cheese and spread over a plain cracker, a yummy combo.
I’ve had a handful over the years, right now I have a larch and a spirea, tiny flowers in the spring. In Michigan I have to plant the containers in the ground next to the house and mulch heavily.
NE OK....
I've been "air layering"...some trees. Plum, Crape Myrtle, and Hibiscus......It's interesting...you can pick the best Bonsai shape..you want in a mature tree.
Next spring...I plan on trying other bushes...trees...
The what I think are Thai peppers...grow upright on the plant. They are green, then yellow, then red....
The finger nail size...are hot...but good flavor. The inch, inch and half size are HOT!! And they just get hotter...!! HA!
They take more maintainence than I have time for now. I do love the collection they have at our nearby botanical garden, some great specimens. I always wanted to try a bald cypress. Love the greyish rugged trunks.
I’m not much of a hot pepper fan. Jalpeno is as hot as I can stand. I love shishito peppers, especially in some eggs. Also like cayenne. Have some dried giant ones right now turning some extra light olive oil a nice red. A few drops of that is great in any stir fry or saute.
Best of Luck AR!!!
As some of you know, I was in the Seed/Garden Center Business for 18 of the happiest years of my life. :)
While I was managing one of the Jung Garden Centers, I received this magazine and would read it cover to cover every month. ‘Green Profit’ is a WEALTH of knowledge in the areas of what was new and happening in the Gardening Industry, new plants that would soon be available, destructive pests that were gaining ground, why you should offer your customers this or that, marketing and store display ideas, etc. Kind of Insider Baseball, but for anyone that is interested in how the industry works, or if you’re just nosy, it’s a great read. :)
I still read the publication on line, and it popped up in my email today, so I thought I’d share:
Green Profit Magazine:
And while I’m on the subject, I’m going to post a few Fall Decor pictures of my old store because it really was the JOY of my life for so many years, and I was good at it, too! I LOVE merchandising, and I can seriously only do so much of that at home, LOL! I had a fantastic staff; we worked hard, but we had SO much fun. (I had an awesome Mentor in the business, too.) So many of us that are gone/retired from Jung’s really miss it and we get together a few times a year for various Field Trips and such. Once a Garden Geek, always a Garden Geek. ;)
Nice pictures thanks for sharing. Looks like a really fun job.
