In light of the heavy backlash from fans and celebrities over rumors of a possible remake of The Princess Bride, What other movies stands on its on as a classic (those near perfect movies) that should not be bastardized in being redone?
1. Godfather 2. Back to the Future 3. Die Hard 4. Shawshank Redemption 5. Original Star Wars, especially Empire Strikes Back 6. Rocky
What else?
Bambi Meets Godzilla
Any movie originally shot in Black & White.
Rocky has been remade in spirit 1,000 times in 1,000 different ways lol.
To add to your list:
Goodfellas
Monty Python & the Holy Grail (any of them, really)
Airplane
Caddyshack
The Usual Suspects
The Sixth Sense
The Wizard of Oz
The Ten Commandments
“-Seven Samurai”
Was basically remade in the Magnificent Seven which was itself recently remade. None are better than Kurosawa though.
“Highlander”
Absolutely right! I read a couple years ago that Tom Cruise was talking about remaking it and got sick to my stomach. Luckily, it seems to have gone nowhere.
The Ten Commandments
Well there is this...

The Princess Bride
“NONE of them should be remade.
The arrogance of some producers / directors who think they can do it better than the original is breathtaking.
Would an author re-write someone elses book?”
If the publishing house thought the people would buy an re-written version of Moby Dick, they’d probably commission it.
Seven Samurai has never been remade. It has been the inspiration for many a film but Kurosawa's film has never been remade.
Apocalypse Now was basically “Heart of Darkness.”
Yes but the original Magnificent 7 has the screen presence of Yul Brynner, Eli Wallach, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, & James Coburn. They make it a different film from Kurosawa’s 7 Samurai even though they share the same story. Those actors are irreplaceable.
Of course it has. Sure they recast it into different setting, but they’re remakes. Heck most of them even had to pay Kurosawa. If you gotta pay the original guy, it’s a remake.
Yes it truly is a great film. And Griffith plays a really sleazy, self-serving, psycho type guy perfectly. Most people identify him with wholesome roles. Lonesome (Loathsome?) Rhodes is an amazing performance.
I think he was miscast, but nevertheless he did play it well.
I have met some people who know Griffith. They say he’s much more like Lonesome Rhodes then Andy Taylor.
Duval in “Gods & Generals” was much better!
Wow, I never would have guessed that! Wild!
