New evidence has emerged that Rep. Ilhan Omar did indeed marry her brother, and that her real name may actually be Ilhan Nur Said.
A resurfaced tweet from 2013 links to a now-deleted Instagram post in which she refers to her father by the name Nur Said.
The tweet was later deleted this morning!

Entering into a short term monetary contract to marry someone/anyone who has already gotten the U.S. citizenship in order to get U.S. citizenship oneself is, I was told by a West African immigrant, is not only commonplace, but perhaps the norm among Africans entering the U.S. under claims of refugee /asylum seekers. “No problem” to do this, it is said.
Getting away with a paper marriage is the easiest way to become an American citizen and have the security and the perks in the shortest amount of time. Starting to go by an entirely different name seems to be part of the ruse that the government doesn’t bother to investigate or is unable to. A whole new person with new SS number winds up on the scene. My sense of the practice and variations on it is that it is common and that the number doing it is far, far, far in excess of just the thousands you suggest.
