Washington is rescinding $160 million directed to Afghanistan, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced Thursday, citing unacceptable levels of corruption in the Afghan government.

The U.S. will still complete the energy project, which was to account for $100 million of the funding. But it won’t be directing the money through Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s government, which Pompeo said is “incapable of being a partner.”

Pompeo blamed the “Afghan government’s inability to transparently manage U.S. Government resources,” for walking back the funds, but said the U.S. would still build the five power substations and maze of transmission lines in southern Afghanistan.

In welcoming remarks, Pres Trump hails "the long-cherished and unwavering friendship" of the US and Australia, which last year marked "100 Years of Mateship." Says tonight's State Dinner in the Rose Garden "will be quite something."

Pres Trump extends "profound thanks to the people of Australia," for fighting alongside the US against "the menace of fascism, communism and radical Islamic terrorism."

“It is wonderful to be here," says PM Morrison in response to Pres Trump's welcome. He says he brings the "amity, thanks and respect" of 25-million Australians "for this great country."

PM Morrison says leaders of more powerful nations may visit the White House, but there won't be "a more sure and steadfast friend, a better mate, than Australia."

The Trumps lead the Morrisons up the exterior steps to the 1st floor balcony and wave to the crowd on the South Lawn. Then into the WH for guestbook signing and exchange of gifts, before heading to the Oval Office for talks.

I also did not realize that the Anti-Lynching bill has not become law. All Senators passed it so quickly with the amendment that Kamala Harris included after the Jussie incident. The definition of lynching in that bill is so broad (bodily injury) that it could be used as a political weapon.

From the bill (1) was in the original bill. I believe that (2) was added in the amendment after Jussie:

(1) OFFENSES INVOLVING ACTUAL OR PERCEIVED RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, OR NATIONAL ORIGIN.—If 2 or more persons willfully cause bodily injury to any other person, because of the actual or perceived race, color, religion, or national origin of any person—
