The leading indicator of gun sales jumped in August, driven in part by Americans seeking self-protection and deep concerns congressional Democrats are going to push through expanded gun control legislation.
The overall number of background checks recorded in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System surged 15.5%, said the National Shooting Sports Foundation. That figure includes background checks done for security, concealed carry permits, and gun sales and was the highest August number ever recorded.
The industry group said that August FBI background checks adjusted for sales surged 15.2% over August 2018. The adjusted August number was second only to August 2016 during the heated presidential election.
The new surge came in the wake of heightened pressure for gun control, sales bans on military-styled rifles, and limits on ammo following a spike in mass shootings.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Monday demanded Senate passage of a House-approved background check expansion. The White House, however, is focused on mental health drivers in shootings.

Thinking about getting an AR sometime in the future. However, all set for now. But we do need to stock up on ammo.
Pelosis trying to push Obama out of that top sales spot.
And I wonder if these gun grabbing dems have investments in firearm manufacturers.
And as everyone knows, all these people are buying guns so they can turn them in!
Well yeah since 99% of anti gun nutz favor neutering the 2nd amendment.
They want a war, they’ll get a war.
It ain’t gonna be free, it ain’t gonna be easy, and it ain’t gonna be cheap for them.
Already spent the budget on other items. An AR would be a nice thing to have just in case.
What is a good “hardened” version — caliber, etc. Caliber that is readily available probably in nato. Want something that is robust outdoors — rain, dirt, etc.
Agreed. I think that they will be surprised and won’t be expecting the reaction. Remember that they operate from a position of “feel good” and won’t be expecting a harsh reaction. After all, they are “doing it for our own good and for the betterment of society. The are saving lives!”
I honestly believe that many of the legislators are isolated, maybe ignorant, and don’t know what is going on in the real world. The good news is that the facts are available and information comes quickly on the Internet. The best way to fight them is through information. At least, it has worked pretty well so far — how many mass shooting have their been recently? — many and yet there haven’t been any major changes to the laws.
There, not their. Sheesh.
“..Remember that they operate from a position of feel good and wont be expecting a harsh reaction. ..”
The hardcore behind the Useful Idiot cannon fodder know damn right well it be much more than a harsh reaction. They’re being coached by professionals from other countries.
This is a war for our future. Let no one believe otherwise.
Oh, and locate a few hundred illegals in every upper class neighborhoods for good measure...
I certainly hope not but I am worried. But follow the rule and hope for the best and plan for the worst.
I enclose you a list of the killed, wounded, and captives of the enemy from the commencement of hostilities at Lexington in April, 1775, until November, 1777, since which there has been no event of any consequence ... I think that upon the whole it has been about one half the number lost by them, in some instances more, but in others less. This difference is ascribed to our superiority in taking aim when we fire; every soldier in our army having been intimate with his gun from his infancy. - Thomas Jefferson, letter to Giovanni Fabbroni, June 8, 1778
Too subjective. Someone I know has an ARmalite they like. Others have Colts, S&W, and many others. If you can find some range that has a variety of brands, that would be the way to try some out and decide. Obviously the 5.56/.223 is probably the most common easy to obtain round. Good luck. And, some of the offerings are NOT that expensive.
We just adopted a few more. Just felt like it.
Thanks. Already have a 223 (not an AR). But would be looking for 5.56 (higher pressures and velocity). Also, the higher calibers, 7.62 etc., seem too much in many respects.
“What is a good hardened version..,”
Rock River Arms 5.56...Swiss watch of AR’s,
