Lazenby was a one-hit wonder, wasn’t he??? He only did one Bond flick...
Good call!
Correct.
“in the #MeToo era, Brosnan said Bond will have to change with the times”
Why not just shelve the character until it blows over and invent a new one that fits with the times?
Oh that’s right. A #MeToo compliant character isn’t interesting unless they ride on an existing franchise to draw people in. Who cares if it destroys the franchise; destroying it is actually a bonus to the “woke”.
The world will be just fine if they never make another Bond movie. It had its’ run.
Hmmm. A case of steatopygia.
I will be disappointed. I thought the latest films with Daniel Craig did a good job of recreating the Bond vs Spectre rivalry. I had hoped after the last film revealing Spectre that the next one or two would develop that plot more. What I am hearing about the latest film doesn’t bode well for that.
Of course this all could be a feint to get people talking about it.
And then in the end, nothing of the kind happens.
Honestly I haven’t watched a Bond film since Sean Connery in the 80s. They just don’t really interest me. However I do get annoyed with the PC rip-offs of existing franchises.
Recent franchises I did like, MiB and Star Wars, were destroyed for me by their recent PC entries.
Wasn’t there one with Peter Sellers, too????
Shilling until the very end!
They are already promoting the female black and not too attractive 007 replacement. So I ain’t setting my expectations too high on this one. PC ruins everything it seems.
I remember all the talk about a “Gay Bond” or a “Black Bond” before the last one, never happened.
Critical :)
1) Female Bond,
Absurd idea, I feel confident in saying it won’t happen, it’s not “Doctor Who” (how is that going BTW, Billy? I’ve only seen the first half hour of the debut episode of the Chick Doctor) but liberal idiots like Bronsan will probably NEVER stop suggesting it. Why not shut up about that and suggest doing an original female spy movie instead? Doesn’t that make more sense than grafting a woman onto an established male character?
Black Bond OTOH I wouldn’t put past some idiot.
2) Craig
Do I love him in the role? No. Do I think he’s terrible? Actually no, he’s had some enjoyable moments. But most of the time it doesn’t much feel like he’s “James Bond”. There’s none of the 007 charm. Dalton showed how Bond could be “hard” while still retaining that, you guys know he was my favorite, even more than Connery to be honest. I lament the issues that cut his tenure short.
It’s not all Craig’s fault, it’s the writing.
“Casino” was pretty good. I heart Eva Green.
The second one was pretty lame. It may be have been highly realistic but I still can’t believe he didn’t bang Olga Kurylenko.
“Skyfall” Strange entry in the franchise. Not bad though. Only Bond film where the villain gets exactly what he wants.
This last movie “Arlen Specter” I’ve seen once and have no desire to see it again, I just found it very very stupid. I probably will at some point just to evaluate it but...just so stupid. “He’s not Blofeld” “Suprise! He’s Blofeld!” That’s not a surprise, that’s a lie, like the “Kahn” shiite from Star Trek. And making Bond his stepbrother? W.T.F?
3) Bronsan
The Bond I grew up with, I can’t hate him (any more than I can rank him highly). Goldeneye remains a favorite of mine, would have been epic with Dalton though.
“Tomorrow Never Dies”, campy but I have a soft spot for that one. My dad bought the DVD for us and we watched it 20 times.
“Twine” felt like it could have been a classic but fell short for various reasons.
“Die Another Day” was ridiculous but honestly after Craig I kinda look back fondly at North Korean DNA transplants and that sword fight was kick ass, the silliest thing may have been that Ice Hotel and that place is actually REAL ;d. There has got to be a happy medium between silly science fiction and Craig-era bare bones “Gay Q” who doesn’t even give him any gadgets.
Again the writing was an issue, Brosnan was quite capable of being good.
Contrast Moore, who was given mostly terrible scripts but managed to rise above them as much as was probably possible. He shined in the few serious moments he was given like slapping around Maud Adams.
4) Casting suggestions, old and new
I remember Fox News showed that James Brolin screen test when it came up and Steve Doocy (Gay for Bush and anyone who looks like him) creamed his pants. It looked terrible to be me.
Clive Owen? Meh. But to be fair I haven’t seen much of his work.
Aiden Turner, my mom LOVES “Poldark” so that would thrill her.
I never thought of Byrne, that could have been interesting.
I think Casino Royale was the best Bond film to date.
Oh, I do agree ...!
Karl Urban?
That's actually a much better idea - BUT - the point the libs are trying to make is to DESTROY the established male character and turn it to sh*t, as they do with everything they touch.
And we're all supposed to just accept whatever garbage they puke out of their f***ed-up brains and call it "entertainment", or else they'll call us names.
F*** 'em all.
