Pierce Brosnan saved the world four times as James Bond, a career milestone he cites as his biggest achievement.
The actor says now is the time to pass the legendary role onto a woman, as Lashana Lynch is rumored to take over as the next 007 from Daniel Craig in the upcoming No Time to Die installment.
Yes!' Brosnan said of the prospect of a female Bond. "I think we've watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting, he said.
However, he expressed doubt that the change will play out on screen under the current producers. I don't think that's going to happen with the Broccolis. I don't think that is going to happen under their watch," he said.
As for how the franchise should approach the seductive spy character in the #MeToo era, Brosnan said Bond will have to change with the times.
Without question, yes... The #MeToo movement has been relevant and significant and well needed in our society, so they'll have to address that, he said.

They’re both 89. Born in 1930.
As a post script, I never liked Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. The only Bond character that really fit the character I portray him to be is Daniel Craig..........
Good choice!
I also thought Gabriel Byrne would have made a good Bond; he reminds me of Lazenby.
Not remotely the Bond intended by Ian Fleming.
Byrne got a bit long in the tooth.
My understanding is James Brolin was also nearly cast in the role at that time, but refused because he felt Bond should not be played by an American actor.
Aside from Clive Owen's nose being "off" to fit the role of Bond, he otherwise looks like a solid choice, equal parts tough badass and suave charmer. He certainly would be 10X the Bond that Craig is.
The franchise would be a LOT better off now if Owen took over in 2003 from Brosnan, and then Owen retired from the role in 2018 and passed the torch to 35 year old Aidan Turner.
I've noticed Craig fans seem to think its a "fact" that his naysayers were "proven wrong" after he was in a successful Bond movie, just as fans of the late Heath Ledger gloat about how the people badmouthing his casting choice for the Joker were "proven" wrong.
I haven't recanted either statement and I was never "proven" wrong. The actor being a successful film in the franchise doesn't change the fact they were totally miscast in the role. It just means the movie was good IN SPITE of them being miscast.
Hell, I'm STILL ticked off that Edward Norton was replaced with insane self-hating white male SJW Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk. Again, Avengers: Endgame was good IN SPITE OF that turd's scenes.
What's weird is he seemed to have a perfectly passable English accent when he was James Bond in the 60s. It was only in his later roles, starting in the 1980s (white bearded, salty Sean Connery) that he seemed to always have his natural gruff Scottish accent. It was particularly amusing in Highlander when the character who is supposed to be Scottish is played by a French actor, whereas Connery is supposed to be an native Egyptian-turned-resident-of-Spain who has never been to Scotland before.
In any case, no Bond has ever topped Connery's first "Bond, James Bond." intro in Dr. No. Even Dalton didn't come close:
Yeah, I read about all the curious casting choices. I think almost every (White) male actor with a pulse in the ‘70s and ‘80s was angling for the role. Casting an American would’ve killed the franchise. James Brolin always came off as perpetually pissed/annoyed or constipated-looking in so many of his acting gigs.
Owen probably came closer physically to Fleming’s vision. He wanted a Hoagy Carmichael type. Fleming would be appalled by Daniel Craig. The one thing about Craig’s Bond is that after seeing one, I don’t really have any interest in seeing it again. Even BonBons, watching them again, you realize how insufferable he was in the role, and I get the urge to want to just punch him in the mouth.
At least when Sir Rog was at his most insufferable in the schlocky ‘70s Bonds, he was still so darn charming. I can go back and watch virtually all the pre-BonBons Bond films repeatedly, but starting with “GoldenEye”, the magic and charm was just... gone. Something soulless about them. I cannot see what the Craig Fanbois see in him that is appealing. If they want to continue in that direction instead of a bulldyke-looking Black, they could hire Steve Burton off of “General Hospital.” He’s got the Craig schtick down pat. Cold as ice.
Who, the broad or Daniel Craig?
He may have been clamping down on it, but I can still hear the brogue. They sure got rid of Sylvia Trench in a hurry, but she was rather in the way (sort of like Yeoman Janice Rand in the early Trek eps).
True. But he would have been a good post-Dalton Bond 25+ years ago.
He showed what he could do in Point Of No Return.
Cool! I bet she’ll be able to kick any man’s butt, even though she only weighs 96 pounds.
Craig. He is absolutely nothing like how Fleming envisioned him to be. As Billyboy pointed out, he was really an EXTREME casting reaction to Pirs BonBons’ insufferable portrayal. There was a middle ground that could’ve been pursued, casting-wise. I was always a big booster of Clive Owen, someone closer to the real character.
I barely remember him in the “Nikita” remake. Bridget Fonda was so damn cute. It’s remarkable how she completely dropped off the radar screen. I don’t think I’ve seen a pic of her since she stopped acting.
Very formulaic. Thats why I refer to Brosnan as Microwaved 007.
She is. There was a recent pic of her somewhere; shes still very pretty.
About a year-ish old. IIRC, she was at a premier of some sort.
I think Spielberg has already said he should make one. Which raises the question as to why he did not make it that way originally.
What I do not understand is why they can not come up with new characters rather then just shoving a female into what was formerly a male role.
Why not make an adventure movie about Annja Creed?
Or a spy movie about Mrs Pollifax?
If you want a period movie then Georgie from the "Her Royal Spyness" would work.
This "men with breasts" rework is an insult to both men and women.
RE Clive Owen:
Kind of reminds me of the late actor Rod Taylor.
RE brogue:
Because no matter what the man says, he says it with STYLE.
I just saw an old flick from mid-70s called “Robin and Marian” - He was in it, with the beautiful Audrey Hepburn.
Loved it.
She died way too soon, that sweet lady. Loved her as Liza Doolittle.
I will be extraordinarily sad when we lose either of them.
