It doesn’t matter if it’s sugary or diet: New study links all soda to an early death
Washington Post ^ | Sep. 4, 2019 | Laura Reiley

Hold up, diet soda drinkers. Regular consumption of soft drinks — both sugar-sweetened and artificially sweetened — was associated with a greater risk of all causes of death, according to research published this week in JAMA Internal Medicine.

Participants who drank two or more glasses of soft drinks per day had a higher risk of mortality than those who consumed less than one glass per month.

Maybe the problem is the evil CO2 that creates carbonation, making soda soda.

Actually that is the problem. Soda is a weak acid and drinking it makes the body lose nutrients like calcium to recover pH balance.

URGENT! Studies find that all people eventually die. Only a few enjoy life, others worry, skip good tasting food and drink.

I am also too cheap to take up motocross, or hang gliding or boating or ... well you get the idea.

I get your point, but you can be cheap and still be involved in all of the activities that you listed in the statement above. The last hang glider that I bought was used, it came with a harness and cost only $200. The only expense for the most part is the gas you use driving to some place that is soarable most of the time. In my case that is a 40 mile round trip.

Cheapness is kind of an artform, if you are creative you can participate in all sorts of activities that others assume are expensive.

The sun causes people to die.

Everyone has exposure to it.

Everyone dies. ;-)

Soda is a weak acid and drinking it makes the body lose nutrients like calcium to recover pH balance.

So by your logic could people negate this health risk by taking an antacid tablet with their soda? Sorry to rain on your parade but wines are acidic. tomatoes, vinegar, meat, grains, beans, corn, cranberries, coffee, fish, prunes and plums are all acidic foods as are many others. Many foods are more acidic than soda. Are these foods more unhealthy than soda? Our digestive system uses strongly acidic fluids to digest foods. Urine and sweat is acidic while blood is alkaline. I have heard your theory before, but it does not hold up to scrutiny. The PH of people's bodily fluids varies because of heredity, diet, health and activity level.

Most sodas have few if any redeeming health benefits, but if you are traveling through a 3rd world country chances are that you would be much better off drinking a soda than the water.

It’s not about reading something and making a change on a fluke. Anyone should know drinking pop is as stupid as smoking. It’s either sugar rush water or chemicals. You do realize the tongue is the biggest deception. What people will do for a quick taste (ruin their body) it crazy. People do need to use their cortex more and think about what they need. . Back to the biggest deceptor...the tongue will make you eat all sorts of crap you shouldn’t. That’s my personal thought. And then the conservative in me says when your poor because too fat and diabetic to work, don’t come round here looking for a handout.

HA. I am a believer so I know I am immortal no matter when I pass this temporal plane. So there.

Seriously is there anything that is not going to take us to an early grave?

Setting up another industry for the class action lawyers to assault. Here goes the price of soda. If it isn’t the unions it’s the lawyers.

Don’t laugh. I’m 72, found out last year I was borderline diabetic.

Was moderately overweight, thought I could eat anything. When eating at a restaurant, I would sometimes order both a coffee and a coke with my meal. If at a burger joint, I would order a coke and a milkshake if they had ‘em. Thought it was funny.

After learning I was nearly diabetic, I went keto/carnivore, lost 43 pounds, look slim now. Thought I got healthy. Nope, not yet.

I almost fainted while cooking dinner a couple weeks ago. Went to the ER. Chest XRAY shows calcium in my aortic arch. So, I need to get the CAC scan to see how bad it is.

Could be a leaking heart valve caused by calcium deposits. At my last physical, BP was 131/81. The doctor said both numbers are too high. Then she listened to my heart and said I need to walk 30 minutes every day.

In the meantime, I am taking high dose vitamin K2 (Koncentrated K brand). Supposedly it can help the body move the calcium from the arteries back into the bones.

Cloward-Piven. Overwhelm the system. This time it will be with millions of lawsuits filed by soda drinkers.

According to statistical research.
Unless they can show credible result from biochemical and physiological testing and research that makes sense then it is pure BS. Statistical analysis stands as definitive medical research these days. Statistical research is only good to support the biochemical and physiological results.

I drink it from a large glass. What’s a serving? Those little bitty half sized cans or a 3 liter bottle?

There are different sweeteners and they failed majorly to identify which ones.

Take away the bitter taste of artificial sweetener by topping it off with some cream to make it taste like a float. Doesn’t help much with the calories and fat though.

There it is. I’m doing my job to save the world my carbon footprint. I’ll drink carbonated drinks thus taking them off the grocery shelves and one day I’ll die.
