Prepping/SHTF Knowledge Base
Vanity ^ | 9/1/2019 | Oshkalaboomboom

Posted on 08/31/2019 11:21:19 PM PDT by Oshkalaboomboom

I have been working on a knowledge base of topics related to prepping and SHTF situations. It is geared towards making people more self sufficient with topics ranging from unarmed self defense to small space gardening to how to sew your own clothes. I'm one of those types of people who believe that we are going to go out with a whimper, not a bang, so there is a lot of content on how to do your own repairs, build your own stuff and live a more frugal lifestyle. In order to get access you need to send me a PM then I will give you a link and an access code. Once you're in you can find a directory list in each folder. You can download 1 file or everything there in one big zip file. You would need to have some basic book readers and, for 1 section, an MP3 player all which can be found for free. It's been up and running for a few months now and plenty of people have visited it and lived to tell the tale :-) If you're interested send me a PM and I will send you the link and crypto key.

I am becoming more of a believer every day. I have concluded that the end of days are rapidly approaching so I try and prepare to last at least 42 months when the SHTF. The big things will be water, hunting, and a garden and being able to hold on to it. If liberals are successful in taking away our guns we are toast. If that happens my only hope is that I can dredge up the ones I lost in the boating accident. Good luck on your prepping everyone and do take it seriously, all you have to do is pay attention to the wacky things that are happening in this county and around the globe to know something is coming soon.

I'm one of those types of people who believe that we are going to go out with a whimper, not a bang [...]

Doesn't that stand in contradiction to the concept of SHTF?

Are you saying that the sh*t will not hit the fan - i.e., that society will not suffer a (relatively) sudden convulsion, breakdown of Law and Order, sudden unavailability of everyday necessities, etc.?

Because if we were going to go out with a whimper, then everyone would have sufficient time to recognize what was happening, and (slowly) prepare.

Requesting clarification.

Not at all. There are 2 main schools of thought when it comes to SHTF, a total breakdown and the whimper one. The total breakdown is best illustrated by Selco, who survived a siege in Bosnia while the gradual whimper one is represented by Ferfal, who survived chaos in Argentina. In Argentina people still had jobs, there was some semblance of a government but for the most part you were on your own. Everybody could see what was happening but most didn't prepare in spite of it. You could make the same case today for Venezuela.

I personally believe America will end up in a situation more like Argentina than Bosnia. Is that okay with you?

Probably .22. the most common rounds would be worth more because there’d be more market for them. 12 gauge OO, 5.56, and probably 9mm would be my too 3 guesses after .22

This site is free for everyone. With Dorian predicted to hit here later this week, Grandpappy (Robert Atkins) has great info on SHTF.

I agree. Investment grade .22s will have the highest appreciation due to current overproduction and the current low price. ;o)

For the long term, keep lots of whiskey and ammo on hand to barter. Salt, flour, sugar items commonly overlooked along with yeast. I have enough food and water filters, along with four ultra/lightweight backpacks for bug out bags.

I think America will see the Democrat’s masses loosed upon built up areas in the form of looting rioters. Too bad we can’t find a pair of decked out MG Jeeps like in the old TV show “Rat Patrol”:)

I believe it will come in waves like a cascading waterfall. IMO, it will actually start overseas. Anyone of the PIIGS will default and go manic with inflation and printing money. ALL the western countries are in deep trouble with their bloated welfare programs.

Trying to figure out what “it” will be is simply not possible. About the best anyone can do is try to figure out what “it” might be. As I see it, the worst case is a larger scale nuclear war (not all out, or we’re all gone from the fallout anyway)...then and EMP. In both cases, we’ll be on our own for a very, very, long time. Then there’s the more intermediate result, a currency crash - where much of what we see today is still in place, but with a huge drop in availability (power on for several hours a day, at best, same with water and then is it safe, scarce food). Then, finally, you have localized events, where the rest of the country can help out...much easier to deal with.

So pick your ‘events’. But he’s a bit of advice that may help regarding timeline:

1) For the very short term, cash will be king, not because it should be, but because people will trust government telling them that all will return to normal.

2) For the medium term, assuming currency is worthless, then something like silver or the barter items mentioned above, or both.

3) For the long term, gold is about it, due to its density of value, but still, you need society to recover enough to even have people willing to accept gold - otherwise you might have to give up a K-Rand for a roll of toilet paper.

But the key is, if your car still runs after “it” happens, gather your family, and then off to Sams/Costco, and simply buy every non-perishable that you can find. If you need to pay in cash, it works in your favor as it limits the competition, but you need to get your stuff before the masses figure it out! Once you start with silver, you better have hardware, as you will also have a target painted on you!

That's why I put in as much information as I can find, so you can pick and choose what you think suits you.

Oshkalaboomboom :" ..when it comes to SHTF,(either) a total breakdown and the whimper one."

In recent times , we have seen both total breakdown,as well as the whimpering collapse.
Both scenarios are social, economic, political and physical catastrophe.
Many of us, especially in the Southeast, are currently facing uncertainty,
due to Hurricane Dorian with destructive high winds, storm surge, and the threat of flooding.
Millions of people are at risk, and many are waiting
for the government to come in and make the situation return back to 'normal'.
Also, we have all heard of whisperings of economic concern about national debt,
and financial "House of Cards' threatening to implode.
Or, consider the recent events in Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, Hong Kong, or even Puerto Rico.
Prepping is a lifestyle of anticipating of which potential catastrophe you are most at risk,
and then preparing to meet your needs prior to the emergency.

It's a choice (!) before other actions and options expire.

This a FREE OFFER of access to a free library, with no strings attached.
You can take from the library whatever you think can help you,
.. and leave the rest.

H/T to TADSLOS for the reminder.

Prepper’s motto: Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

Taxman :" Prepper’s motto: Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!

True that !
Another Prepper motto is :" one is none, two is one, three is two,..etc."
It means that you should always have a back-up operational, or, a back-up plan.

For example: Acquaintances of mine lived in Baton Rogue, La., and their house was protected
by dykes and electrical pumps, although the house was 12 feet below sea level.
Then came hurricane 'Katrina'.
As the water rose up the had to evacuate the first floor and go to the second floor.
As water continued to rise they evacuated the second floor to the attic,
and as the water continued to rise they used an axe (prep)to chop through the roof,
and had life-preservers(prep) for themselves and their dog.
Ultimately, they (& the dog)were in the water, rescued by helicopter, when their house floated away.
Prepping is a life-style, of anticipating possible problems, and having a reasonable solution.
Our grand-parents called that "common sense" to possible problems and catastrophes.

Great post, Tilted Irish Kilt! Thanks!

An absence of common sense WILL get you killed!

When we were kids, my parents did canning and freezing.

It helped make ends meet for a large family.

I’ve kept up with the canning and freezing and I also own a pressure canner for canning meats. Lots of turkey soup starter in the basement. :)

We just bought our new prepper friendly place way out in the country and are already making plans for how to make it more self-sufficient.

Mr mm has been a hard sell to see the need for prepping but he is even been seeing the handwriting on the wall and is coming around.

Between the two of us, we could handle about any improvisation needed because he’s good with mechanical and electrical stuff and I also sew and garden. A LOT.

I wish there was someone to pass the skills down to though. So many people don’t even know what to do without their microwave. If the grid ever goes down, they will go hungry very quickly and not know how to avoid spoiled food.
