“Tech” shirts are just ones made out of a material that permits good air flow and wicks away moisture, AKA your typical synthetic material. A lot of races used to give away cotton shirts, because who the heck would want to wear a plastic shirt off the course?

Then people started wearing the shirts on race day.

Seems like every Target carries Clif Bloks, and almost always, they’re the cheapest. And my tiny little neighborhood market also carries Clif Bloks - Clif is really good at getting people to carry their products.

Honestly though, I’d probably look more for Red Vines, a loaf of bread, a jar of peanut butter and some tin foil if I left my nutrition behind on race day. (Target also carries KT tape and quite a selection of running gear, shockingly enough.)

I’ve watched my son do a few Half Ironman Triathlons (swim 1 mile, bike 50 miles, run 13 miles). There are overweight participants. I don’t know how anyone can train for a triathlon and not lose weight.

In a waiting room with National Geographic, I used to play a game, to see how long it would take me to skim through and find a global warming mention. Always less than 20 seconds.

You can’t out train a bad diet.
Tons of carbs, too many calories, high inflammation & cortisol, etc...

Ever notice there are no elderly fat people?

We’re reaching peak stupidity on this stuff. Medicine has its fads and even not a little quackery every now and then in terms of diet and nutrition, but one thing they have nailed down is the link between obesity and diabetes, heart disease and other ailments. It is astonishing to see pushback on this, sex changes for children, and the rest of it.

technical shirt: expensive

Advertising wankery. Another wretched neologism “Microfiber cloth”. We called ‘em rags, I think.

Readers Digest. That used to be great. It died probably 20 years ago. Maybe more. I don’t bother with any of ‘em anymore. I doubt too many people actually subscribe, they are simply gaslighting loss leader mechanisms and hobbies for billionaires.

I don’t know what a “Clif Blok” is, but I can bet they are way overpriced.

More like “Time to cancel the subscription”.

What a bunch of wankers. What they are doing is so vile it is beyond description.

I’m 61 and 5.6 tall, 150 pounds. I have never been anything other than skinny but in the last several years I’ve put on about 10 pounds, most of it (the extra 10 pounds) is in my gut.

So I wanted to trim up a bit. In the past I have practiced martial arts and rode bicycles. I was the kid in 8th grade that was a bicycle nut.

In my mid 20s to mid 30s I did a lot of bike riding and was doing about 6 or 7 half and metric centuries (50 or 64 mile) rides/year. Gave it up when we started family life that was when I began martial arts. I have rank in two martial arts.

I haven’t exercised on a regular basis for 15 years. So to get back in shape I started bike riding last fall. I’ve trained a lot and ridden several organized rides, the longest a 65 mile charity ride. As a side comment, my feet are a train wreck so running is out for me.

All this to say I’m really enjoying being back on the bike but the sport is overrun with liberals that know everything and PC to the max. It seems every aspect of the sport is liberal infested.

But as I always say every black cloud has a silver lining and the silver lining here is that the libs as a rule have little personal staying power, this puts good high quality little used 10 year old bicycles out on the used market. I picked up just such a machine, a 12 year old Cannondale road bike for $300 This bike when new was $1500

I think getting triggered by innocuous comments from trainers and store clerks is over the top PC stuff. But she should have smacked the a$$hole heckler.

All of this has caused her to dig in. I think attention to her size has caused her to adopt an attitude of defiance. If she wasn’t triggered by every word and everyone kept their mouths shut, she probably would lose weight.
