Alex Trebek is returning to work as Jeopardy! host this week, nearly six months after revealing he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
The six-time Daytime Emmy winner (and Lifetime Achievement honoree) released a video (below) on Thursday afternoon announcing that his chemotherapy treatments are over and he is now on the mend.
Trebek shared his cancer diagnosis on March 6, saying, Im going to fight this, and Im going to keep working, he said. And with the love and support of my family and friends, and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival-rate statistics for this disease.
In late May, he offered an update on his treatment/health, saying that some of his tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent following chemotherapy, despite the disheartening survival rate for Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
The doctors said they hadnt seen this kind of positive result in their memory, Trebek said at that time, adding that he cried tears of joy, not tears of depression upon learning the good news.
Season 36 of Jeopardy!, with Trebek back as host, premieres Monday, Sept. 9 in syndication.

I’m excellent with Shakespeare and okay with lakes and rivers. My 13-year-old does Geography Bee, and the rest of us hang over his shoulder while he’s doing practice quizzes.
The guy is a class act. He issued a very heartfelt thank you on-air to all of the people who had been sending him get well wishes.
I hope you do become the first guy to beat this, Alex.
Far as I know they did not do Whipple on Mr Trebek; just chemo.
I don’t know how they treated the main tumor and made it go away, if they did.
He looks like Ron Burgandy in that pic with Ruta.
This is probably more of a factor than anyone is acknowledging:
the rich and connected make their luck....it just doesn't stumble upon them...
besides, after that farce that went down with James......
I don’t watch that show because Laura Ingraham comes on at the same time.
He hasn’t said he is cured. Probably impossible to say as much with this type cancer. I hope it doesn’t hit him like a brick again.
I know oncology company Marker Therapeutics (MRKR) is doing some great work with Gene therapy. They have some real good AML data showing great response with no side effects. They started a Pancreatic Cancer study using there therapy in conjunction with Standard of Care chemo. Early data looks like the response rate is significantly better than chemo alone. Of course there is s long way to go.
That is wonderful.
He may have finished chemo, but 1 and 5 year survival rates for stage 4 pancreatic cancer are very grim. Less than 1% make it to 5 years.
Good luck! Hope you make it!
His wife being hotter than a twice baked potato is probably a major motivator, too.
That dude wants to live.
Hubba hubba.
Thanks. They might call me any time in the next year, or I might never hear anything. It was fun trying out, anyway.
Pat sajack is awesome too. Speaks out for conservatives.
God speed and blessings!
