Ohio homeowner shoots dead two 17-year-old boys who were 'trespassing' inside his garage at night

An Ohio homeowner shot dead two teenage boys who he say were 'trespassing' on his property on Wednesday night.

The homeowner has not been named but is being questioned.

He told police that on Wednesday at 9.30pm, he shot the two boys in his 'garage'. He called 911 afterwards.

The boys have been identified as 17-year-olds Devon Henderson and Javier Harrison. It remains unclear if they were trying to break into the property, or what their motive for being there was.

When the homeowner called 911, he told the operator: 'I shot two guys. I shot two persons tried to rob… to do something in my house.'

Dayton Daily News, a local outlet, says one of the teenagers' father's believed they knew the shooter and had been in the garage before.

Society determines law and who will enforce it. Not the individual property owner. You can no more shoot somebody on your property without a threat than you could commit other crimes (rape, assault) just because you are on your property. You need to go back and rethink your thesis.

“It looks like abandoned property. The house is boarded up. The homeowner did not say they were threatening his safety. Seems like this is shoot first and ask questions later. As a teenager I occasionally found myself snooping around abandoned property. This is a terrible price to pay for curiosity.”

I saw the pics but it would seem someone was looking after it.

Also begs the question why they were going in it at that late? Could be to do drugs or see if anything was left they could steal. Either way they had no business on the property. They guessed wrong that no one was watching the place.

That picture is not current it’s a 2015 Google streetview shot. That house has been sold since then.

Which means dad could be wrong about the homeowner knowing the boys. New owner may have been clueless that teens had been using the garage as a drug den.

I see. There is no proof of a robbery. But you were obviously there. So we must accept your word here.

(Sheesh!)

But 8:30 is ok?

I never said that. Any time is good for me. The laser still works in daylight. After dark will just get you special attention in these parts. The dogs will love it.

“My garage is part of my house. If someone is in my garage, they are in my house. Detached garage, different story.”

Now wait just a minuted!! Think of all the stuff you store there! Lawn stuff? Car stuff? Stuff that can be stolen and pawned? NO sir that is your property and no one has the right to go in there period. You have the right to defend your castle even if it’s the detached garage.

Really not enough info provided to draw that conclusion.

The boys had no business there. Everything else is conjecture.

These days, the car might be worth more than the house.

I’m not spring loaded to shoot.

What will probably happen to an intruder is that they will be attacked by three german shepherds, and when they are done with him, he can then deal with me.

And had he hurt any of those shepherds, it will be very, very bad for him.

No way in Hell I walk in on someone in my home that ain’t supposed to be there, and I don’t fear for my life. No. Way.

You have the right to defend your castle even if it’s the detached garage.

Cant tell if that was sarcasm or serious. But it really depends on the local/states laws as to whats considered your 'dwelling' and when you are 'justified' to shoot someone, beyond a clear threat to your life or loved one.

Yes I see that but is it their house? Do they own it? If No then they had no right to be there. People need to learn stuff don’t belong to them and to stay away. Other than being boarded up it’s not a bad house. It’s probably (my guess) under an estate and they are settling it. Windows are boarded up to keep jackasses like this from breaking in.

Here is the problem, we have been brainwashed into the false understanding that private property is now all public community property in common. Your stuff is now their stuff to come get if they think they want it or need it more than you, and if you try to prevent it YOU are the criminal. When was the last time law enforcement actually cared about finding stolen goods? They do not have time anymore to care, they have bigger fish to fry, they just say “turn it into your insurance” and they are done with it, don’t have any? too bad...

This is a communistic basic principle where everything belongs to everyone.

three german shepherds

One of the most useful comments on this thread. Agree that is probably the best deterrent and first line of defense. I think we are on the same page. I am more concerned about others posting here that, without regard for their local/state laws, think the appropriate answer is they are the law on their property and can shoot any trespasser.

We should all have the right to defend our lives and families, but take it seriously if you are going to do so.

Maybe he did........

We're just internet junkies who are prone to jump on the story and condemn the shooter but who have no clue what went thru his mind so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Well trespassing is one thing. However, people can and do get shot for trespassing. Whether the shoot is legal or not doesn’t matter a whole lot to the person with the bullet in them, so that should be considered.

But if they are inside, where I am, that is a totally different beast.

I am not even going to talk to them. It’s just going to be violence as quickly as I can.

Anything past the “property line” is felony trespassing and every private property owner has the constitutional right to protect that private property.

And that is in the Constitution where exactly?
