SEATTLE, Washington (KETK) A 103-year-old Seattle woman set a world record after becoming the oldest to successfully skydive.
On Thursday she suited up, boarded a plane, and went for the ride of her life above Snohomish County, Washington.
To celebrate her 103rd birthday, her son Warren, a frequent jumper, decided to take his mom with him.
Its fun so why not have some fun, hallelujah, Kitty Hodges, Warrens mom said.
Kitty was not nervous at all, even though people half her age are scared of skydiving.
She screamed, Im all set, Wee!!!!
Her neighbors from Bayview, a retirement community gathered along the flight line to see kitty off on her adventure.
She is one of the most tenacious amazing positive people Ive ever known, one of her friends said.
After a quick flight to 10,000 feet, Kitty and her instructor jumped out of the airplane and landed safely 30 seconds later.
How was her experience?
Great! But dont believe it, she laughed.
After 103 years, shes seen and done it all.

30 seconds?
I’m not a skydiver, but to me 30 seconds without a SPLAT at the end doesn’t compute.
At 103 you’re probably past worrying about death.
One can't help but wonder about the older one who UNsuccessfully skydived... (skydove?)
“To celebrate her 103rd birthday, her son Warren, a frequent jumper, decided to take his mom with him...”
I wonder if there is a significant inheritance involved in this equation? Next year he will want to take her snake hunting in Australia.
Forgetting to pull the ripcord is a risk. :)
Wait... at 103 she has a SON that took her skydiving?
I hope they meant great grandson...
Takes a lot longer to come down from 10k than 30 sec’s - more like minutes. I don’t know how long the free-fall was what with her age.
She’s apparently an active senior.
She also set a record for having a kid at 84.
I’m surprised some insurance company didn’t deny her. They write dozens of pages of restrictions and limits.
I had a few friends who went skydiving several times. I went with them, put a chute on, went up in the plane and didn’t jump out. Hadn’t planned to because I had kids at home.
But oh, my, it looked like huge fun. When I’m 100 (which my doc says I will be), I’ll do it then. GHWBush did on his 100th.
approximately 150/200 mph drop speed will get you down from two miles in short order.
Not if you are using a tandem parachute which in this story was used. You can hang-time quite awhile with them.
Wow pretty amazing to be doing that at 103, the same age as Madonna.
60 second delay from 12.5K Chute is pulled at 2.5K agl
You forget there’s a 103yo woman attached. I fly a jump plane and have seen sports para’s come down like crazy and the Goliaths hang for what seems like eternity before flare to landing.
LOL
“oldest to successfully skydive.”
Do they keep records for those unsuccessful?
