Today’s Cryptogram

ZJD VDTNFTLF CTNAITLL YMTL MI VMSMIV JE. FBT GZLF UTDFNMI CNP FZ LJUUTTX ML NYCNPL FZ FDP QJLF ZIT GZDT FMGT. FBZGNL TXMLZI

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.

HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

Today’s puzzle is from the Arkansas Gazette. Once you get the “E” some of you might figure out the author on the first try. Then it’s a toboggan run down The Matterhorn.

Solution to our last puzzle:

Life is a flower of which love is the honey. ---Victor Hugo

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.

Yes, but he lied. He tricked his competitors into investigating thousands of filament materials. The secret was the vacuum...

One minute. Got the common three-letter word, which got me the author. The quote is a paraphrase of Franklin.

I was taught that the secret was to find a conductive material that had the same coefficient of thermal expansion as the material the bulb was made of, so that the vacuum would not be lost when the bulb heated or cooled.

Well, I had a rough couple of days (crypto wise) but followed the old

‘If at first you don’t succeed, try the outfield’ method...

Of course, it helped by being able to pick off the author from the ‘comment’ section....

The old ‘why are they teaching us this crap, who cares-or better yet- who will EVER need it’??? rears its ‘ugly head.

Just about 5 minutes this time. A couple of false starts then it started coming together, once I tried one more time. ;-)

I wanted to give up and start over, but didn’t: My guesses turned out to be right, after all, and everything fell into place. Just as the quote says :-)
