FULL TITLE: Book Store Closes Down So It Won’t Have to Collect Taxes for New York, Which Legalized Abortions Up to Birth
New York bookstore owner Jon Speed made national news in January with his protest of a radical new pro-abortion law in his state.
Speed closed his bookstore, The Book Scout in Syracuse, for a day so that he would not have to collect state sales taxes to support the killing of unborn babies.
Now, he plans to close his business completely and leave the state. In a post Thursday on Facebook, he blamed the “tyranny of the state” for his departure.
“Due to the continued tyranny of the State, we will no longer operate a small business in New York,” Speed wrote. “We cannot, in good conscience, continue to pay sales tax to a state that encourages the murder of its own children with glee.”
He thanked his customers and shared his family’s plans to move to Texas, which has been working hard to pass pro-life laws and defund the abortion giant Planned Parenthood. Speed said they plan to continue their work in Texas to “end the slaughter of the most innocent among us.”
As LifeNews has extensively reported, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo wasted no time signing a radical pro-abortion bill into law in January. The law allows abortions for basically any reason up to birth and ends protections for pregnant mothers and unborn babies who are victims of violence. It also prohibits the state from enacting even minor, common-sense abortion restrictions.
After signing the law, Cuomo celebrated by ordering that state landmarks be lit in pink.

The law outraged many New Yorkers and others across the country. In February, Speed helped to lead a day of protest and repentance in reaction to the pro-abortion law.
Speed said many people contacted him in support of his January protest, among them were women who regretted aborting their unborn babies.
“We had a volunteer here going through the voicemails and she finally said I can’t listen to it anymore. And we asked her why and she said because people are calling and about half-way through their messages they start weeping,” he told The Post, previously. “It was emotionally draining. There are a lot of heartbroken people out there.”
Like Speed, most Americans oppose the radical pro-abortion agenda that Democrats are pushing.
Earlier this year, Marist University research found that just 21 percent of New Yorkers support the pro-abortion law. In contrast, 66 percent said they would like abortions to be limited to, at most, the first trimester.
Similarly, a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll found that just 6 percent of Americans said abortions should be allowed “up until the birth of the child.”
The latest Gallup poll, released in June, found that 60 percent of Americans want all (21 percent) or almost all (39 percent) abortions made illegal. In contrast, 38 percent said they want all (25 percent) or almost all (13 percent) abortions legal.
There are 50 states in America (or 57 according to one idiot) you can do business in that are tax-friendly and you dont have to stay at the Holiday INN to realize this. I’d buy a book from the guy once he moves out..

He’s not the only one leaving the state because of that law.
Not that everyone who is leaving is for that reason, but everywhere I go, I hear people talking about leaving the state themselves, or family members leaving the state.
People are abandoning ship here.
They’ll sue to make them open up so they can sue them for non-payment of taxes then close them down because of it.
The majority of our business is capital improvement work so no taxes collected on that to give to the Peoples Republic of NY

I have family that worked at the Marist poll. It is well regarded not surprised with the survey results. New Yorkers are not all nuts.
