Subject: Out of town pool report #11 — Grisham statement

Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham just sent this statement to the pool:

“This morning in the bilat with the UK, the President was asked if he had ‘any second thought on escalating the trade war with China’. His answer has been greatly misinterpreted. President Trump responded in the affirmative - because he regrets not raising the tariffs higher.”

Subject: Out of town pool report #13 — new event!

While the smaller pool is waiting outside the Centre de Congrés Bellevue, the full pool is now being summoned after we’ve received word of an unscheduled event that appears to be happening shortly. No one with us at the moment seems to know what it will be, only that something is happening.

Subject: Out of town pool report #13a — Abe again

Pool was rushed into a bilat room at 3:04 p.m.

Its the same room where POTUS and Japanese PM Abe already held a bilat earlier this morning. Four chairs are set up in front of the G7 backdrop and the US and Japan flags.

None of the principles are here yet, nor are the Japanese press.

Subject: Out of town pool report #14 — Trump and Abe on trade deal

Japanese press entered at 3:11. Aides for both sides cane in a few minutes later. Then POTUS and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe entered the bilat room together at 3:14 from a side door and sat down. Lighthizer sat beside Trump.

Trump: “We’ve been working on a deal with Japan for a long time. And we’ve agreed in principle...billions and billions of dollars.”

He said Japan has agreed to buy a lot of the US corn surplus.

“We probably will be signing it around UNGA.”

Subject: Out of town pool report #17 — No spray of G7 session on partnerships with Africa

Pool is told that POTUS has joined the G7 working session on partnerships with Africa that began at 3pm, but because the availability with Abe ran long, we are unable to spray it for logistical reasons of some sort.

Pool is heading back to the casino/workspace.

Subject: Out of town pool report #18 — POTUS back to RON

Pool has been informed that POTUS left the Centre de Congrés Bellevue at 5:11 p.m. to return to the RON, which is also the site of tonight’s dinner.

We did not see him depart. We are told he is now back at the RON as of 5:15.
