Just one day before he turned 45, Colin Dowler didn't think he'd live to celebrate it...
the avid outdoorsman was scouting backcountry trails outside of Powell River, B.C., on his mountain bike, about seven kilometres away from a nearby logging camp.
After making his way down one of the hills onto the logging road, he caught sight of a large male grizzly bear, walking in his direction.
"I wasn't really sure what to do about the situation," Dowler said from his Vancouver hospital bed. "I largely stood there, and let the grizzly keep walking up towards me."
Concerned of making any sudden movements, Dowler nervously watched as the bear inched closer. He had a hiking pole in one hand and tried to nudge it away.
But the bear kept advancing and swiped at Dowler's mountain bike.
It grabbed me by the stomach and kind of pushed me down and dragged me toward the ditch maybe 50 feet," he said. "I tried eye gouging it away and it didn't really work."
Dowler, a husband and father of two daughters, says the event seemed to unfold in slow motion. He considered playing dead as the bear bit through his arm, foot and thigh.
"It sounded like it was grating my bones up," said Dowler. Knowing that the bear wouldn't stop the onslaught, he remembered he had a small buck knife in his pocket
...
I grabbed the knife out and opened it and put it in [my] hand and stabbed the bear in his neck.
...
four officers went into the area following the attack. Insp. Murray Smith said the bear was put down after it snuck behind one of the officers.

Might this be Kinfolk ?
National Parks are no longer gun free zones in the out of doors. You can carry. Just not inside a structure.
I read the news, and inspected the rules posted at Glacier last week. They strongly recommend in favor of bear spray and against guns, but they don’t disallow them.
Had 3 bears near the 1890s cabin we stayed in, way up the North Fork.
Good times.
At the speed of bear, you will be very lucky to get off more than 3 shots. A six shooter is plenty of rounds. You’ll be dead before you get to the sixth round.
Hey Boo-Boo, The Humans a chasing Us again !!!
Hi Shari, how are things going ?
That's what they say, unless you get a lucky shot. I wonder how my WIN .348 would do.
www.postimg.cc has been working for Me. Only drawback I have found is No Video support. .gif works fine.
See Post #46 for Pic Hosting.
I coulda used that yesterday in the “Abbey Road” thread. I figured it out (sorta) anyway, but sheesh.
I thought that Griz chasing the cyclist was debunked as fake?
Literally LMAO.
Scared the dogs with it.
You win the internet for the month.

Sitting here still giggling over keat’s epic comment.
Thinking about running away from home Sunday night so I can avoid all the “nursing” demands bearing down on me.
/see what I did there?
:D
Look at the size of those claws!
The 2nd at the 3:30 mark seems most real to me.
He voted for Hellary, right?
If only he’d shared his granola with the bear.
Dammit, where’d I put that spare keyboard? LOL!
Running away will start an attack, and get some freeper to call you stupid.
Cocos islands? All 600 inhabitants must work for the website!
Still I’ll give it a try...
There is a video out there. These bears can catch the bike easily. Only if he had a steep downslope and could hit max speed. But the bear has the advantage. Bike takes time to
get moving.
