That’s why southern Italy and Spain observed the “siesta,” where businesses are closed all afternoon in the summer; open only in the morning and evening.
add to that the sidewalk temp is closer to 150f as well
My nephews wife has been a UPS driver in the Mohave for at least thirty five years. For years she delivered to the Ft. Irwin area which is fringe Death Valley. She uses a battery operated fan in her truck.
In earlier times, these guys also had people shooting at them. (Starts at :18)
For what ? Medicare alternative offers? AARP magazines?
I think this is deliberate so they don’t actually have to stop for lunch.
Having no a/c in the desert is brutal.
People have long used carpet-type runners designed for dashes to reduce the amount of radiated heat. Maybe some other material could be used to cover dashes in postal trucks - like a silicon coating? Cheap, easy to retrofit.
Thinking of just the little electric carts that our route uses, they do make golf car tops that are ‘swamp cooler’ tops that you fill with ice water and off you go for 9 holes. But the AC top is current-hungry so 18 holes is probably a no-go as would be 7 hours of blasting air on a route.
But how about this idea: DH bought one of those ‘as seen on tv’ personal “air conditioners” aka hamster-sized swamp cooler. Low amps, fill with water and select speed. Why not modify one to run off accessory plug (or separate batt even), with a slosh-proof mounting for those pot-holes, and, voila!, filtered air and a cool breeze on demand, open window stop and gos eliminate humidity, and no major modifications like current-hungry golf car tops required. You can even snap one of those Fabreeze a/c air freshner clips on the front and smell laundry fresh. Happy Postal worker. Happy taxpayer. Problem solved.
Best statement so far on this thread.
Oh the humaility
Yes, suffering is ennobling as long
as someone else is doing the suffering.
Sending cards, bills, etc. $.55 is $.55. It all adds up just like the increase in gasoline tax that many states are experiencing. Many seniors don’t do the internet thing and many don’t have credit cards. The majority of the older folks in our church do not use a computer.
It’s more than that. If they get a few years seniority and work a lot of overtime which is common they can gross close to $500 daily, plus 30 days vacation and 10 paid federal holidays, health care, pension investments etc.
Well put.
Why do you we continue to waste taxpayer money on a service that loses money every year ?
Steak? I knew these lazy bums make too much money.

Gosh...what did postal carriers do, for the past...say....75 years, in AZ???
Did they all pass from heat stroke?
No...they went on retirement disability ASAP.
