Study says 28 percent of delivery drivers have eaten some of your food

(WSET) -- Ever wondered if a delivery driver took a bite of your food while on delivery? A new study says your fears might be real.

A new study done by US Food shows the habits of both customers and delivery drivers.

The study shows 28 percent of delivery drivers have taken food from a customer's order.

54 percent of delivery drivers polled also said they are often tempted by the smell of the food they deliver to customers.

The US Food study also shows that 17 percent of customers complained their food was not warm or fresh, and 16 percent complained their food was delivered late.

Customers weren't the only ones with complaints about food delivery. The study also says 60 percent of delivery drivers complained of receiving little or no tip, while 39 percent complained that the customer's instructions were unclear.

The study covered 1,518 American adults who have used food delivery apps, including UberEats, Grubhub, DoorDash and Postmates from May 9 to 13.

They also surveyed 497 American adults who identified as having worked as a deliverer for at least one food delivery app.

And probably using drugs too! My friend has a neighbor who is 46 years old and does door dash-—he is a drug user.

No thanks—I’ll get my own food!

People should go get their own food. I’m pretty sure the mom and pop Chinese place and the regular pizza shops are fine. But that new gig economy uber delivery crap is just somebody driving around people most of the day. When I worked at the pizza place, the last thing I wanted after 6 months was pizza. We used to trade pizza for burgers from the place nearby. We’d make them whatever they wanted and they would make us a bunch of what we wanted in burgers and fries. Was a great trade off, they hated burgers and we hated pizza. But some random uber dude not around that food all day...

I get the feeling food delivery is becoming a real thing.

Personally, I”ve not had food delivered in decades, but I drove for dominoes back in the 80’s for six months and it never even crossed my mind to pull a piece of pepperoni off a pizza.

Times are a changin’.

That’s disturbing and worrisome. Once in a while, I use that service. If it’s something in a filled up, enclosed container
such as Fried Rice or Chow Mein, theft may be less likely compared to a dinner with numerous pieces of food, such as Shrimp Tempura or Chicken Wings.

Not shown: Who tends to eat more from their customers:
Men or Women? I have my own ideas.

Places I’ve had food delivered from, staple the bag shut before it leaves the restaurant.

Pizza is the ONLY thing I might have delivered, and that is rare.

We used to cut a 1” strip down the middle, then cut it regularly. No way to tell anything was missing. Most times we ate mistake orders, but when hungry, we cut out the “middle”, man.

I agree. The young fellow who drives the Blue Belle ice cream truck usually eats all of it.

Just making sure the stuff is fit for human consumption. Heck, they should get paid extra for rendering this additional service.

Bottom line: don’t be a dumbass

Either cook your own food or go out to a restaurant be served by a server and tip well

The exception to this is far as I’m concerned is pizza and only pizza

And the polls showed Hillary would win in a landslide. I sincerely doubt this ‘study’

There’s a restaurant about two miles from us, they make pizza in a wood fired oven that is directly behind their bar. We go there, order a pizza to go, sit and watch it cook, then take it home ourselves. No tip, no delivery charge, no cold pizza, no tampering, free entertainment, and the pizza is always done exactly to our wishes.

Back in the days before self-service, a friend of mine got a job as gas station attendant. When a customer drove away, ‘Bob’ would drain the gas remaining in the pump hose into a gas can. When the next customer came, that customer would fill up the hose unbeknownst to him before gas would enter his tank. Bob would rinse and repeat. Bob always had gas...

NO WAY!
You're telling me that the purple haired chick with multiple facial piercings that brought my food last night may have eaten some???

Damn, what is this world coming to.
The next thing we will be hearing is that someone contracted hepatitis from an unlicensed food delivery person...
