Among the various hot topics at Big 12 media days this week was one about a famous hand gesture.
Opposing teams have been inverting the Hook Em Horns sign forever. The reason? S---, legendary Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer recently told ESPN. Its just fun!
As a quick refresher, the hand signal in question is made by extending the index and pinky fingers while grasping the middle two fingers with the thumb. Its supposed to look like the Longhorns mascot Bevo. Players from Oklahoma, West Virginia and elsewhere, however, prefer it upside down.

The “Horns down” gesture is old, but the snowflakes are not upset.
ESPNU said it smacks of white nationalism!
This entire fiasco is stupid and was brought on by the NCAA’s own rule about taunting. It’s not the horns down that is the issue, it’s that WVU’s quarterback tossed up a horns down before crossing the goal line. THAT, according to the NCAA taunting rule, is an illegal move. Had he done it AFTER crossing the goal line, this wouldn’t even be discussed today.
So it’s not about UT whiners at all ... it’s about a stupid taunting rule that needs to go away. Far, far away.
Its all because UT has become a California college.
“...its about a stupid taunting rule that needs to go away. Far, far away.”
Exactly. While we expect good sportsmanship, a little taunting has always had it’s place in good rivalry. At the end of the game shake hands and walk it off. We’ve been doing that for generations.
It’s always been a California college.
So glad the Aggies don’t play them anymore!
Gig Em Aggies!
Jealousy is a humorous thing to observe!!!
No, it’s all because of the NCAA’s stupid taunting rule.
Banning and removing stuff is Democrats idea of winning because they cant create anything.
T-sips have always been and will always be whiners.
Some things never change.

Everyone’s offended. I seem to recall the Texas bleachers had their own little digs on their opponents...
What comes out of a Chinaman’s ass?!
RICE, RICE, RICE!!!
oh, for the good ol’ days...
“Horns Down” is the biggest college controversy celebration of the year?
Pathetic.
Texas' overall football record against Texas A&M is 76-37-5
Texas basketball holds a 137-85 record over the Aggies.
Hmmm, does that mean the Washington Post is a dog whistle?
...so what, beeeg deeeeel.....
Gig’em!

Back in the 1950's and 1960's, when the University of Southern California was a conservative school true to its Methodist roots, the Trojans went 4-0 over Texas, appeared regularly in the Rose Bowl, and won an occasional National Championship and Heisman Trophy. But that was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
USC is currently run by globalists who apparently see football as a parochial American cultural artifact little understood outside the US, so it is being given less and less priority, with the expectation that it will eventually be phased out--or at least that's what many frustrated Trojan fans are coming to believe. The hiring of a series of mediocre coaches and the latest outrage--scheduling a Division 1AA team for the 2021 season, which has never before been done--add weight to this conspiracy theory.
Taunting has gotten out of hand. Used to be a fan thing, not a player thing. In high school ball, getting caught taunting results in a penalty and getting a player benched by the coach.
As Lombardi used to say, "Act like you've been in an end zone before.
Players did a lot less taunting in the days when there was retribution on the next series.
