I started carrying to work when a guy was let go and I wondered if he'd go postal. That is the main reason I bring it into the office with me. Plus, I don't like leaving it out in my car to possibly be stolen.

If the clerk arms himself he may lose his job if he prevents a robbery or his own murder with a gun. He will, however, still be alive and that is worth at least a little bit. one can always find another job. There are other bosses out there who appreciate that one is ready to prevent a robbery.

Back in the '90s I was a contract programmer at a large manufacturing plant that underwent a sweeping house-cleaning, up to and including middle-managers.

They always had guards at the gate and I joked with one of them about setting up a perimeter against any of those fired who might flip out. He made the perceptive comment that that event would more likely be when the unemployment ran out some time later.
