Thursday marks 50 years since Ted Kennedy, the liberal Democrat from Massachusetts, drove off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island and left Mary Jo Kopechne to drown in the back seat. For decades, journalists and the TV networks downplayed the incident and portrayed the senator as the victim.
Despite the circumstances, New York Times correspondent James Restons initial coverage in 1969 framed the story as a "Kennedy family" tragedy, rather than as a tragedy for the Kopechne family. As the Media Research Center's Brent Bozell and Tim Graham explained in a 2015 column:
Restons first draft on Chappaquiddick began Tragedy has again struck the Kennedy family. The actual victim was submerged in paragraph four. Luckily, the Times edited it to put the actual victim in the lede. When Kennedy spoke to the nation with his dishonest narrative about what happened, Reston was oozing again, that Teddy was a tragic profile in courage.
On July 18, 1989, NBC Nightly News journalists Andrea Mitchell and Mary Alice Williams used the 20th anniversary less to reflect on Kennedy's wrongdoing and more to tout how the Senator was winning respect.

So, anyone got a clue as to when the lame stream started their campaign of lies and redirecting the news to suit certain goals? I was but a 22 year old at the time of this but it was pretty damn obvious that this was BS from the git go. Pretty sure it started before concrete's '68 statement about VN being lost. I don't trust any of them and haven't for a long time. One may read what they put out and then with a box of salt do a little digging.
P.S. I see andrea mitchell is getting a lifetime achievement award for lying.

It wasn’t just journalists who covered up Chappaquiddick.
Add the Kopechne family to the list also. There’s an article down the page (FR) on how they just released a letter they received after Mary Jo’s death. From Muhammad Ali.
The Kennedy’s paid for their silence.
And this murder by democrats was repeated when Seth Rich was killed. His family too does not want the truth to come out.

Kennedy was lucky. The Apollo moon landing two days later knocked Chappaquiddick out of the headlines.

The Enemedia hasn't changed in that time one iota.
There could be verified video of The Hildabeast boiling kittens alive and they would remark on what a good cook she is.
And in breathtaking contrast, Trump tries to PUT AMERICA FIRST by protecting our border, and they act as though he nuked Atlanta because he thought there were too many black people there.

Shame shared by the Catholic Church, which apparently prevailed upon the Kopechne family not to pursue legal action against Kennedy.

I used to have a copy of “Senatorial Privilege” that had the entire deal laid out. Pretty disgusting. But hey. Kennedys and disgusting go hand in hand.

So, anyone got a clue as to when the lame stream started their campaign of lies and redirecting the news to suit certain goals? You could check out the 1964 NYTimes coverage of the Kitty Genevovese murder (the 38 witness LIE), but I'll bet money you could go back farther than that....a LOT farther./

If he did, the drive-bys would invent fake phone logs showing Teddy called Donald for advice right after he fled the scene of his drunken spree / vehicular homicide.

You asked, "...when the lame stream started their campaign of lies and redirecting the news to suit certain goals?" I just gave you an example from 55 years ago.
