A multi-billion dollar construction project at LaGuardia Airport is causing more than a minor inconvenience.
Many travelers have to take another trip before they head home and many are now complaining of price gouging.
On the Sunday night after July 4th, frustrated passengers fresh off a flight thought the long line outside the airport was for a yellow taxi to get out of LaGuardias Terminal B.

I find NY is a place to be avoided.
One of the great things about being old is that you don’t have to be entertained by the products of man. Everything I own is a “tool”. And If I want to see NYC, I just watch an old TV cop show. :)
My biggest worry is hitting bears or deer. I hit two deer recently at one time and now I have ANOTHER dent in my passenger door! And deer hair in the door handle.
The construction has been going on there for years. I try to avoid that airport by using either JFK or Newark. I live in CT so Laguardia would be the best choice if it wasn’t so insane. They make it very difficult for Lyft/Uber to pick you up at the airport so you are pretty much forced into a Yellow Cab. You’ve got to watch out for the gypsy drivers too.
Transited through O'Hare a few days ago. Arrived in the international terminal, which is in Kenosha, Wisconsin. You then walk all the way to Chicago to reach baggage claim. After rechecking baggage, we had to change terminals, with a long line to take the bus to do that. Upon reaching the correct terminal, the O'Hare Rule kicked in, with our flight at the farthest gate, halfway to Dubuque.
This is 2019. O'Hare should have been nuked decades ago. Given Chicago's preeminence as America's crime capital, couldn't they just send some local talent over to steal the Hong Kong airport and sneak it back? They steal everything else, so that should be a snap.
Yeah, it’s a serious problem where I live in rural KY.
When I lived in the seattle area I was stopped by cops an average of three times a year. Here in kentucky it’s been twice in 8 years. But my wife and I have hit three deer. And, truth be told, they all ran into us.
I joke that we don’t need cops to keep our speed down. We have deer for that.
My son slowed down “to park” at Ohare once and a cop tried to hand him a parking ticket before he even stopped. He laughed at her and just kept driving.
Kwick, import more people to improve traffic. More is always better
Was there 3 weeks ago. Total Charlie Foxtrot in and out.
Truly avoid LaGuardia for now.
My wife flew from a South Dakota airport to Seattle to see me just before I proposed to her. As the plane was flying away she could see her car still parked at the passenger pick-up and drop-off curb. When she got to Seattle, she called the airport and apologized for her mistake.
When she got back four days later, it was still there, waiting for her. :)
We call it “La Garbage”
Generally speaking, you will not have a bad time at any airport if you plan properly. I make it a point to show up at the airport at least three hours before my flight time. That way, I can get some reading done on my Kindle while sitting at one of the bars for a couple of drinks (mellows me out for the flight). When landing, I'm in no rush either. I just take my time and don't get stressed out.
NYC is one big clusterflux of expensive hustle and hassle. Also 3rd world imports galore.
Great story but how many decades ago was that?
They are all terrible.
When we moved north of Gay Frisco in the late 1960’s, SFO was under major construction.
Now in 2019, that construction is still going on and Oakland is a close second. Traffic is a mess 24/7.
Fifteen years ago, we refused to go either airport to pick up friends or relatives. If they flew into either airport, getting to our home was up to them.
They could fly into Sacramento. If they arrived during the morning or evening rush hours, they had to rent a car
to come to our home or wait an hour or two. Then, we would pick them up.
