Harley-Davidson is releasing details about the electric motorcycle its rolling out this year that it hopes will capture the imagination of a new generation of riders and put a charge into its diminishing sales.
The LiveWire, which will soon be available in a limited number of dealerships, will cost nearly $30,000 and can go zero to 60 mph in three seconds. There is no clutch and no shifting.
The company said Thursday that buyers will have access to free charging at participating LiveWire dealers for the first two years.
The Milwaukee motorcycle company has struggled with declining sales and an aging client base in the U.S. and abroad.

I hope they lose their shirts with their china made junk bikes
Plus the younger generation is buying hondas and yamahas because they also want to buy a house or a regular car as well
Harley still doesn’t get it
This is the gayest thing ever
Quiet and no vibrations? It ain’t s Harley.
Gee, the only way they can improve it is to make it driverless!!
It’s ugly as sin, good luck selling those for 30k.
If it’s not quiet and doesn’t vibrate, nobody under 45 will buy it.
Just doesn’t seem right without the sound...
They didn’t say how many times you could do that or how far the range was after doing a few full power pulls. To be fair, most of this new crop of electric bikes can do decent performance and have a 100-200 mile range too.
That said, this is slower to 60 than standard-class conventional-gas-powered Asian bikes... FROM 15 YEARS AGO. And it costs two or three times as much as a comparable Honda from NOW - while probably being less reliable at the same time.
The suspension and trans/final drive oils, duh. :P
Had a Kawasaki 1400cc that would do 0 to 60 in 3 seconds ...about the time ya banged second gear.
For 5 miles, then it needs to recharge.
I’m not in the market anyway. I’m 65 and would love to put another 100,000 miles on my latest BMW before I have to quit riding.
I have an 81 Kawasaki GPz 1100 which is nearly that fast in second gear. Itll strip you off the seat if youre not ready for it.
I figure much of the electric bike inventory will end up driverless...
heh heh heh heh
Agree.
but the rest of the world will hate you less when you go by without destroying everyones peace and quiet with your ridiculous two wheeled cacophony factory.
