ATHENS, GA - On Monday, July 1, 2019, at approximately 12:45 PM, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Athens Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.
Preliminary information indicates that 2 ACCPD officers responded to a scene after receiving a 911 call about a male, later identified as Aaron Hong, age 23, causing a disturbance with a butcher knife at the River Club Apartments on Macon Highway, Athens, GA. Hong was using the knife in an aggressive manner and appeared to be injured himself. When police made contact, Hong immediately confronted them and began to walk towards officers with the knife in hand. During the incident, officers provided numerous verbal commands for Hong to drop the knife. Instead, Hong charged one of the officers with the knife and the officer fired his weapon multiple times, striking Hong. Hong managed to get back up and during the confrontation attempted to grab one of the officers weapons. The second officer fired at Hong multiple times, striking him. Nearby medics responded and Hong died at the scene.
One officer sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene.
The two officers involved, Senior Police Officer David Harrison and Officer Charles Bidinger, were placed on administrative leave.

Surely the klantifa types will be screaming photo shop or CGI alterations to the video.
Please explain the 21 feet rule.
Thanks
Probably suicide by cop scenerio. The officers dont know and has no choice. He tried, lousy deal.
Colonel Jeff Cooper created it. 21 feet is the distance a grown adult can cover in 1-2 seconds, and a defender has that long to draw and shoot.
Good thing the mutant is white. That means we’ll never hear about it again.
It's easy to be a "Monday morning quarterback," but I wonder if there was a breakdown in procedure here that allowed the mutant to get up again and grab the one cop.
I’m glad this video was released to the public, it eliminates all the BS and gives the public an honest look at what can actually occur in these situations.
This is why police are trained to kill. The 21 feet rule does apply.

This was about as righteous a self defense shooting as you can get. The officer almost lost his life by not following the rule to continuing to shoot until perp is no longer a credible threat.
What a nightmare...
If someone with a knife is 21 feet away from you and charges at you, its nearly impossible to draw your weapon and fire before they reach you. Even with your weapon drawn its difficult to aim accurately and strike a moving target. The officer did well in this case, but still did not stop the subject with the knife even after shooting him.
Damn... just goes to show how much punishment the body can take when the adrenaline rush gets in. He had a couple of rounds in him already when he got back up and charged...
This ain’t Hollywood folks, where the guy collapses and dies on the first round.
That is some terrifying sh*t right there, for sure. Hope the cop is ok.
That’s why they kept backing up, to keep distance. He covered it fast...
They are NOT “trained to kill”.
They are trained to “stop the threat”.
Sorry, Dennis Tueller of the Salt Lake City PD was the one who did the research. Google up “Tueller Drill” - lots of BS on FR when it comes to shootin’ stuff.
I just took a course on gun law in my state and to protect yourself if you are ever involved in a defensive shooting, and they discussed the “21 Foot Rule” in an interesting and illuminating way.
As you described, it is the distance a grown adult can cover in 1-2 seconds, and a defender has that long to draw and shoot.
The instructor was careful to point several things out.
First he took out a tape measure, had one of us stand at one spot while he stood 21 feet away and said “Could I get him before he could draw his gun and shoot me?” Everyone kind of hedged and thought it was likely he could get shot before he got there.
Then, he showed a a picture of a buff looking Marine and asked “Do you think this guy could get through that 21 feet before you could draw your gun and shoot?” Everyone thought no...the Marine could get to him first.
Then he showed a picture of an elderly fat lady, and said “Do you think this guy could to you from 21 feet away if your gun was in your holster?” Everyone laughed and said no way it could happen.
The guy said they did tests, and even found that an old fat lady could cover that distance faster than most people realize.
He showed us a real video of a police shooting of a suspect, and it was pretty striking.
Then, he made sure to point out that the rule does not apply if you have your gun out already and are pointing it. That is, you can’t point it at someone 21 feet away and when they begin to run at you, you can’t immediately shoot them, even to “stop the threat”.
Last, he said that if we are ever in that situation, in my state, if you can produce documentation that you attended his class, you could introduce the “21 foot rule” in your defense if the situation warranted it. HOWEVER...if you could not produce documentation that you attended a class like his and prove that the “21 foot rule” was included in the curriculum, then...the legal defense could not invoke it in defense of a client! He grinned a little as he told us this, and said while he hoped none of us would ever have to, if we did, the course will have paid for itself!
It was quite eye-opening.
It’s ok, the bad guy was white. Nothing to see here.
Sorry. I was going from memory while busy at work. Names wrong, but the rule still applies.
