The daughter of two college athletes was hand-picked by Serena Williams' coach to train in Nice, France in 2015, when she was just 11.

The 15-year-old took a science test at 11 PM the night before she played one of the three qualifying matches at Roehampton to make the main tournament at Wimbledon.

Gauff told CNN she ended up getting a 'B' on the test, and that only one of her teachers even knew she played tennis, but are now all cheering her on.

She was homeschooled by her mother, a former teacher.

Gauff's mother, Candi, ran track at Florida State University. Her father played basketball for Georgia State University.

Athletic DNA plus intelligence, a high energy level to succeed and top coaching is amazing when combined with discipline and a high desire to succeed.

We are seeing the same pattern with some of the young pro baseball players this season. Some have grandparents and dads, who were excellent pros. Their abilities on the field show the above, and that the grace their parents and grandparents had on and off the field has been passed on.

One of these days, we will be able test good/great athletes to see what their DNA was/is.

Don’t be surprised, if and when we find out their ancestors had similar DNA qualities.

Her father did an interview with “Black Tennis Magazine” (didn’t know there was such a thing) regarding his daughter. He indicated they were a very spiritual family, in which prayer is an every day event. He also claimed CoCo prayed before every match, not just for herself but for her opponent.

She was interviewed several times during Wimbledon, and she is way beyond her years in maturity. This girl has definitely been groomed for the big stage and big endorsements. Not sure who watched her second match against Hercog, but CoCo didn’t win the match, Hercog lost it with some of the worst tennis I have ever seen a pro play.

It was disappointing to hear that a black UK male tennis player, dropped his white female partner in mixed doubles to play with CoCo during Wimbledon mixed doubles. In fact, he contacted his partner to break the news to her with a text message. My feeling is CoCo’s father who is her manager and coach should have declined, this was an outrageous move in the tennis community and there is no way the father didn’t know the situation.

If you are into guys, I guess.

OH, be nice!

A friend whose attorney wife is about 6-2, he is taller.
Explained how he did not need to be bothered every time she needed the large bag of rice from the top of the cabinet.

The Williams sisters would be most helpful in snow season, digging out the car and pushing when stuck.

From the 1950s, but in today’s paper:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/two-women-who-defied-prejudice-at-wimbledon-11562245200

Rarely remembered, however, is a prejudice-defying moment in 1956. That’s when Althea Gibson and Angela Buxton, an African-American and a British Jew, teamed up to win the women’s doubles championship.

. Gibson had famously broken the sport’s color line a few years earlier, but her greatest success came just after she and Buxton teamed up.

, Buxton began winning regularly on the junior tennis circuit and took lessons at London’s renowned Cumberland Club. But her coach informed her that she could never join the club, regardless of her talent, she told an interviewer in 2016. “You’re perfectly good, but you’re Jewish,” she recalled him saying. “We don’t take Jews here.”

But her coach informed her that she could never join the club, regardless of her talent, she told an interviewer in 2016. “You’re perfectly good, but you’re Jewish,” she recalled him saying. “We don’t take Jews here.”

With the French Open, one of the sport’s four Grand Slam tournaments, set to begin, neither woman had a regular doubles partner. Buxton’s coach Jimmy Jones suggested that they team up again. The pair cruised to victory on the red clay courts to take the doubles crown, and Gibson won the singles title as well, becoming the first black Grand Slam champion in both.

Gibson dominated, and the pair quickly took the first set 6-1 from two Australians. In the second set it was Buxton’s turn to rise to the occasion with a breathtaking drop volley to prevent a pivotal break of Gibson’s serve. They went on to win the close set 8-6, giving them the championship. The next day, Buxton noted, one British newspaper headlined the victory as “Minorities Win.”

The two women never played together again, and Buxton’s career was cut short by a wrist inflammation. But they remained friends until Gibson’s death in 2003.

Williams’ tennis players make me sick. Two individuals with the shoulders of men and the cover up by the media. Lady tennis pros are probably twice as sick of it as me.

I was listening to one of the famous players of yesteryear (forgot her name!), and she was saying how years ago there were many young, good players (she won her first major at 14 or something).

She said it has been a long time since a young player has been able to do this. Women’s tennis has become so much more of a “strength” sport that a 15-year old just doesn’t have the strength yet.

Go Coco!
