Fairfax, VA – -(AmmoLand.com)- Many of my friends are calling me wanting to know what the hell is going on with NRA, as if I ought to know. But all I know is from past observation and from what I’m reading almost daily in newspapers or internet blogs. Mind you, I’m on the outside: I am not, and never have been, on the NRA Board of Directors. But to try to answer them I wrote this encapsulation. Here’s how the situation looks to me. If what follows is not substantially true or seems unfair, I hope somebody on the inside hastens to correct me. Because it’s depressing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Wayne LaPierre is to gun rights as Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton are to Civil Rights. They don't want to fix the situation because then their gravy train goes away.

The NRA has long been a paper tiger.

Any pro-gun advance have been generated up from grassroots gun-rights groups while Pepe LePew has never been seen pictured with anything other than a over/under shotgun.

Very well put, and you are exactly correct.

I’m a NRA instructor, but to be an instructor, I do not have to be a member.

My membership just lapsed, mainly due to laziness, but I now think I’m going to wait a while and see what happens

It’s all a conspiracy, I tell ya—everything! ;-D

[Still a member. Glad the NRA is cleaning up the celebrity cult mess.]

The following explains most of it,...

Turmoil In The NRA

...except for this. The expenses for Wayne LaPierre that some of the left-media journalists ranted about were incurred over a period of about 13 years (2004 through 2017) and appear to have been used in connection with television and other productions (billed through Ackerman McQueen).

When you're talking over $40 million to an ad agency and million dollar salaries to its officers, and millions more to their attorneys, I have to question their existence......

I can't argue that the NRA has been a friend of the 2nd Amendment but the same service could have been accomplished for a fraction of their costs..........

Time for a total restructuring and pay scale..........

I can't argue that the NRA has been a friend of the 2nd Amendment but...

Really???? These are older articles but still applicable today.

NRA Supported the National Firearms Act of 1934.In fact, they've supported gun rights infringements "since...1871."

How the NRA Bargains Away Our Second Amendment

I dumped that fake group of lying scumbags and thieves 7 years ago, and joined the GOA as a Life Member.

Good man! I went with the Second Amendment Foundation and the texas State Rifle Association, but the idea is the same.

In 2013, we got uninfringed carry in Wyoming, with no paperwork or permission needed. Naturally the NRA tried to limit it with new restrictions.

Their latest moneymaker idea: mandatory liability insurance for concealed carry permitees. Available, of course, from the NRA, after mandatory NRA marksmanship qualification. And, of course, all for a fee.

I can't argue that the NRA has been a friend of the 2nd Amendment. ... .

Like when they wanted to have all handguns added to Roosevelt's National Firearms Act? Registration, fingerprints and photographs, and payment of a $200 tax for each handgun?

Not my kind of friend!

If you have to go back 85 years to rag on the NRA then you're full of crap............

Every time a controversy regarding the NRA comes up, like maggots on road kill, idiots like you jump out of the woodwork to bash them left and right..........

So tell me, what has the GOA done to overturn the FFA of 1934? What has the GOA done to prevent the passage of the FOPA of 1986?

Sorry sucker but the NRA is not your enemy regardless of the concessions they have been forced to make during their tenure.........

Take the NRA out of the political arena and where do you think we would be in terms of our 2nd Amendment rights????

You sure about that dude? Who was responsible for limiting the tax and registration to automatic weapons only?

You seem to have ignored that page of the NRA bashing manual............
