Fairfax, VA – -(AmmoLand.com)- Many of my friends are calling me wanting to know what the hell is going on with NRA, as if I ought to know. But all I know is from past observation and from what I’m reading almost daily in newspapers or internet blogs. Mind you, I’m on the outside: I am not, and never have been, on the NRA Board of Directors. But to try to answer them I wrote this encapsulation. Here’s how the situation looks to me. If what follows is not substantially true or seems unfair, I hope somebody on the inside hastens to correct me. Because it’s depressing.

Long read but worth it to any Second Amendment patriot.

I've stuck with Wayne LaPierre and the NRA through thick and thin, but after the Oliver North and Chris Cox incidents, I may not renew my NRA membership.

Such a surprise. Wayne LaPierre always seemed like such a well balanced and rational individual.

The other warning bell on William A. Brewer III is his political contribution record to dozens of Democrats, including Hillary Clinton, Al Franken, Dick Durbin and Beto O'rourke and just a smattering of Republicans!?! What better way to destroy the NRA than get a Democrat sympathiser on the inside. Now he is coaching Wayne on where to lead the NRA while bleeding NRA coffers dry!!! WTF?

They aren’t too big to fail.

While people like me dutifully contributed to them for decades thinking they were protecting our God Given Constitutional Rights they turned themselves into a Monopoly full of rich cronies.

The Salaries are obscene for a non profit endeavor supported by voluntary contributions. All these years we imagined our Dues and Contributions went to the cause. Apparently the cause has become a Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous episode.

While there are other organizations working to protect our First and Second Amendment Rights, they have not been able to get the foothold the NRA enjoys.

My membership ended before this became public. I just lost confidence the NRA was fighting the good fight. My outsider impression was that my dues were not getting good value so I stopped.

Now I am certain. The NRA has been fleecing its honorable, good-hearted and freedom-loving members. The membership of the NRA is the salt of the earth, but the leadership...

I dumped that fake group of lying scumbags and thieves 7 years ago, and joined the GOA as a Life Member.

I understand that Chris Cox of the ILA has resigned from the NRA at present. It is worse from when this article was written.

The caveat I always state when discussing the NRA is that it's a DC lobbying organization first and foremost, and a legal defense organization second (hence NRA/ILA). The departure of Cox has highlighted who's really driving and it doesn't look very good.

Longtime members will recall the 1996/7 civil war after the 1994 Clinton betrayal overturned that board, and that led to LaPierre's accession and Neal Knox's departure. I dug deep for Life membership at the time because I saw the direction of the federal government and felt the situation was dire enough to justify the expense, which for me was considerable. It's taken a quarter century for the rot to set in, but set in it appears to have. Time for another house-cleaning.

I never know who to believe in these internal disputes. Since I'm paid up for the rest of my life, I only donate when an election is near.

I do buy a lot of NRA products, but I use them and while they are slightly overpriced, I consider that my donation to a good cause.

I will wait until the dust settles, but I will wear my NRA and MAGA products and my soon to be KAG {that doesn't look good} stuff with pride.

I joined just to show support for the 2A. Given what’s going on, I see little reason to renew.

Sheesh. Terrible management, greed, lawyers, and PR firms. That’s always a recipe for disaster.

Makes me want to puke too. Been a member since 1961 and am endowment member now. Another iconic institution along with the FBI desecrated by deeply flawed men. Just sent back an NRA begathon solicitation with a scrawled message...”get your shit together before I send any more money...”. Adults playing little kids games in the pursuit of greed while we face existential threats to the 2nd Amendment. Beyond disgraceful. Support the 2nd Amendment Foundation, GOA,and CCRKBA from now on and not the NRA...until further notice.

I’m still a member but will not renew absent an external audit.

Also a LaPierre needs to go. He’s been there long enough.

I also want to see reforms to ensure greater transparency. How is the president allowed to spend so much for so long without accounting for it? Where was the audit committee? None of this passes the smell test.

The unfortunate thing is we cannot simply write off the NRA. Nobody else - not the GOA nor 2nd Amendment Foundation both of which I’m also members of, has the reach or the muscle of the NRA

Chris Cox at the NRA/ILA has done some very good work, but Wayne LaPierre seems to be more interested in keeping us gun owners in a perpetual "crisis mode" in order to keep the donations flowing.

Chris Cox wanted to fix situations. LaPierre exploits them.

Yes. Wayne LaPierre has pi$$ed away hundreds of millions of Dollars in NRA membership money over the past 20 years, and now is firing and/or suing anyone who attempts to uncover it.
