Our 'Greeneyes' has been FOUND, but she is STILL having computer issues, so I have been asked to keep the Weekly Garden Thread rolling until she returns.
That said, I will be posting once a week, and I will TRY to stick to her schedule of a Friday Night/Saturday Morning Weekly Post.
The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Thanks. We have a creek and originally we planted them 30 feet uphill from the creek. That was the advice we got. But they did not do well for a couple of years and we moved them to higher ground. We found when digging them that even though it looked dry their holes were filled with water. We have not thinned our woods at all, it is enough to keep the jungle beat back around the house. But we are glad they are up here closer to the house.
We are experiencing the best Cherry crop in my memory! Thousands of Bing Cherries from one tree and no one to come pick them.
If you were closer, I’d come pick! Bing cherries are one of my favorites!!!!
Lucky You! I’d call everyone I knew and tell them to help themselves. What a treat! :)
Yes, of course they are. They are beautiful as well. Some plants, the prettier they are, the more toxic they are. My neighbor is lovely.
Some women, too....................
Oh, yeah? Maybe I’ll just go back to the cooking thread...
Rain, rain, and more rain here in Central Missouri over the past week. 3” on Saturday and another .5” on Sunday.
This would have been a good year to start a fish farm.
My garden is a wreck. I might get some tomatoes eventually. If they don’t drown.
CARROT JUICE Blender to pulp tiny 1/8" pieces ¾ ways full w/ ½ cup water. Hold pulp in large bowl. Add cup water; w/ clean hand, squeeze pulp into strainer. Hold pulp on plate. Repeat to squeeze rest. Add water to squeezed pulp in bowl. Squeeze; then Sieve into 2nd container.

WHICH CARROTS? Almost any large variety can be used---Neptune is an excellent long season 'Flakee' type carrot with large conical roots up to 12in/30cm long, with an intense orange colour and are particularly sweet for their type. Juwarot is the carrot with the highest beta carotene content. Or use regular shop varieties, Imperator, Nantes, Chantenay, Danvers and Nairobi.
You had me at, ‘Imbibers...’ :)
Bolthouse Farms makes an AWESOME Carrot Juice. I’m going to have to invent a Carrot Martini...strictly for HEALTH reasons, mind you! ;)

Anyone here bother to prune their cucumbers or to clip off the Male cukes.
I have zero experience with this plant and have seen YouTube videos saying to clip the makes off and other videos saying to clip off the new shoot near the fruit and leag.
How do you get your photos hosted so you can post them?
I have a FB page and I steal bandwidth from that jerk. :)
But there are plenty of photo-hosting sites; Flickr seems to be the most popular around here.
You’re my Martini Angel! :)
I can’t hardly wait for my Friday Night Happy Hour, LOL!
Augie! My garden is a wreck, too. :( Beau and I were chatting over supper and we agree that we’ll take a drought/dry year over one with too much rain.
2012 in WI was a drought like we’d never seen before prior to Dust Bowl Days. I grew the BEST crop of Peppers and Tomatoes I ever had, before or since!
