I cannot imagine how reparations can be done. Certainly no former slaves are still alive. Their families? Does one have to prove the presence of slave ancestry and absence of owner ancestry? What about reparations to the people related to Northern war dead? And relatives of Southern war dead have already paid dearly. Did not President Lincoln declare this done and over and time to heal the wounds? And what of all the Americans whose families have arrived after the Civil War? They had nothing to do with slavery here. And what about all those here who didn't hold slaves?

Or is it guilt/victim by skin color, in which case what happens if there is 1/1024th or more of ‘other’ blood in one’s ancestry.

Having both recent immigrants and Union war dead in my family, I find talk of reparations particularly insulting.
