Zuckerberg really isn’t any kind of genius. He stole the idea of a friend based blog like live journal and crossed it with a fad that was out at the time (can’t remember most of the names, but some were rate my face, and rate your mate) of posting pictures of selves, classmates, friends, and exes. It caught fire and also caught some flack so he modified it to be more about social posting and gossip and less about posting people’s pics. It wasn’t rocket science and it wasn’t planted by mind control. Good grief
The entire history of FB is shady. As a software engineer I’ve always suspected Mark isn’t what has been presented, he’s never talked technical details. The implication is that Mark is a prop that just does what he’s told. Coincidence that our youth are mind-numbingly uninformed?
FB engages in rabid political bias and censorship. It makes loads of sense that it is tied directly to government entities - or do you not believe in a deep-state?

You completely miss the point. First, there’s ten different stories about how it become a product. The rocket science was making a system that could scale to billions - this isn’t trivial. I never said “it was planted by mind control”.
It’s dawning on me that many FReepers are completely unaware of the level of influence that FB, Twitter, etc. have on billions of people - it is where they get their “information”. The censorship that is going on is directly intended on influencing elections.
Because everything, and I mean everything is a conspiracy.

Then you have no idea what is going on within social media. You think Obama didn’t weaponize depts of government too? This is about political power - minds of billions having their information filtered and censored by their governments. The de-platforming of conservatives is increasing by the day. It’s far more logical to think that LifeLog (CIA) became Facebook (transitioned on the same day) than to believe this clueless moron (Zuckerberg) created this monster.

They may be still around but they’re beyond niche. FB is a monopoly, it has “critical mass” which makes it difficult to get anyone to switch - you must get enough people to switch to make it viable. Catch 22.
I don’t think you’re grasping the influence of the platform in today’s world.
The government once announced a program called Lifelog that would gather all the information about every American that it could find. After being exposed and after a huge public outcry they announced the termination of that program. On that same day Facebook went online. Coincidence?

The problem with most conspiracy theories is they rely on these faceless masters that are so smart they can accomplish all these things and so stupid they do “obvious” things like publicly pull the plug on one and plug the other in on the same day. Took a long time for FB to become a monster, any secret government program would have been considered a failure and been pulled before then. Out in reality it was the right app at the right time that caught the wave of public interest. No conspiracies needed, just a better UI than the competition.
