I sat on a jury where the perp  -drug dealer-  called the victim with a burner phone. law enforcement searched facebook for the number and found a page with the perps number and photo, no name. using facial recognition software on the criminal database they found the perp's ID and arrested him.

he was convicted of attempted urder.

I don't know whether fb's original purpose was a honey pot to catch anyone the government wants info on, but I'm confident it's used that way every minute.
