...and where is MySpace and AOL today?
Both still around. AOL was acquired by Verizon. They shifted all Verizon email customers over to AOL when the Communication Workers of America pushed to organize Verizon email employees. Myspace has been taken over by indie bands and musicians to promote their music.

They may be still around but they’re beyond niche. FB is a monopoly, it has “critical mass” which makes it difficult to get anyone to switch - you must get enough people to switch to make it viable. Catch 22.
I don’t think you’re grasping the influence of the platform in today’s world.
