Corona police say 32-year-old Kenneth French from Riverside allegedly assaulted the unidentified officer inside the store on Friday night. Frenchs mother, Paula, and father, Russell, were also shot and critically wounded.
Both remained in critical condition at Riverside Community Hospital on Sunday but Frenchs cousin Rick Shureih told CBS2/KCAL9s Greg Mills his uncle was doing better (he had a breathing tube removed) but his aunt is still not out of the woods.
He said Kenneth had mental issues but nothing that ever made him violent. He told Mills that Kenneth was a big guy and because of his issues he had a blank look on his face.

The Cameras will tell what happened.
Not if the guilty party can help it.

Unless there was some mysterious "malfunction" of the security system, like we saw in the Las Vegas incident.
Or perhaps the recordings will get lost or damaged after the security system is impounded.
That video had better show up soon.
Well, shooting mom and pop after being scared of the big guy son, hmmm. Did Mom and Dad present an imminent, grave and reasonable threat to the off duty officer s well? I have my reservations now.
There had better be both video and as many credible witnesses for the defense of justification proof.
Don’t think Costco wants to go there,Police have the Tapes,we will see what happens.
I’m guessing all three were “in his face” when he decided to open fire.
Just a guess.
They may have been trying to rescue their son, who was in the process of being killed, or even trying to pull him out of an argument before the shooting. Or, they might have been going after "a bad guy with a gun" (they likely had no idea he was a cop). At this point, as bad as it looks, we just don't know what happened. Still, it's hard to imagine a situation that required shooting the whole family.
There should be video from several cameras. Hopefully the parents survive and can give their side...
A verbal confrontation is not likely supportive of defense of justification for lethal force. What would a reasonable man do?
Certainly we do not have many facts yet....
Im also thinking they were in the line of fire.
If this was a non cop arguing with some shoppers who shot 3 killing one, and no weapon was displayed by the victims, he without a doubt would have been hauled in for interrogation and most likely held in custody until at least a preliminary investigation was conducted. This story just doesn’t add up. At least 6 shots, am I to believe the parents didn’t back off after a couple of shots? Was the cop afraid the old lady was gonna scratch his eyeballs out or something? Smells of an attempted coverup for one of their own.
“Mental issues” = paranoia = possible justification for the use lethal force.
Perhaps Kenneth saw the gun and decided to confront the off duty officer for being a threat to humanity.
Initial reports had French having a Mohawk haircut. Maybe that was a bad report or they possibly cherry picked this photo.
I wonder if this guy ever served time and or had been arrested by LAPD, possibly by this same cop.
Cops releasing few details, apparently waiting to see what if any video surfaces before they construct their (fabricated) story.
Possibly - Im thinking he just unloaded on the guy (as officers are trained anymore) and mom and dad were directly behind him in the line of fire.
frankly thats, at least, reckless use of a weapon and enough to kick him off the force.
Whether or not the actual use is justified remains to be seen.
Not if the popo have it.
It’s being “adjusted” right now. Or scrubbed. Shredded. Sent to Bora Bora.
The blue line.
