“From my understanding, from some people we talked to, there was apparently an argument inside. Some type of argument that ensued into a gun battle,” Lt. Jeff Edwards told reporters.

The off-duty LAPD officer reportedly works in the Southwest Division and shot and killed a man during an altercation after feeling threatened.

The injured were transported to a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.

Witnesses at the scene told CBSLA reporter Nicole Comstock they heard an argument before hearing seven or eight shots.

The investigation is currently ongoing, but the officer is not currently in custody as investigators look into what may have prompted the shooting including the possibility of self-defense.

No, there is no magic words did someone can say that justifies the shooting, cop or not. Simply uttering the words “I felt threatened” gives you no magic legal protection. It always comes down to what a reasonable person would accept. For that threat they say required deadly force, despite all the drama on the thread, it pretty much has to be something that the reasonable man, legally speaking, would agree with.

The Rules dont apply yet. Not if you’re the cop anyway.

Because You and/or I would be at least in Holding.

My understanding is the Mohawk guy took down the others first than the off duty officer intervined. Reports are all over the place, no one really knows yet the tapes from the store will tell the actual story.

I thought Costco was no guns allowed? However, our local one has no signs posted so I roam freely until told otherwise.

I saw several recent articles that said he was NOT in custody, because he claimed self defense and an investigation is ongoing.

It raises the stakes at places like Costco that have no firearms policies. And I try to avoid those places all I can. But sometimes you just got to be like Charlie tuna... don’t get caught!

Nully, today cops always feel threatened. Even when they are alone and asleep. Unless one wishes to get shot full of holes, one never argues with a cop or has a difference of opinion with them. When one encounters them, one quickly puts distance between them and the cop. When one cannot put distance between them and the cop, one prays. Fervently and earnestly.

And if you do get caught you’ll end up like Erik Scott.

Does Costco have a magic force field? I would think anything is possible there that could happen anywhere else.

We all have to forget the “can’t happen here” mindset these days. Crazy people are everywhere. We will need more info to know who the crazy one or group is with this story.

Six or seven shots is overkill for an officer.

Cops always justify “feeling threatened” when shooting someone.

Six or seven shots is overkill for an officer.

What are you talking about? They sometimes reload and still fire one or two more.
