From my understanding, from some people we talked to, there was apparently an argument inside. Some type of argument that ensued into a gun battle, Lt. Jeff Edwards told reporters.
The off-duty LAPD officer reportedly works in the Southwest Division and shot and killed a man during an altercation after feeling threatened.
The injured were transported to a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Witnesses at the scene told CBSLA reporter Nicole Comstock they heard an argument before hearing seven or eight shots.
The investigation is currently ongoing, but the officer is not currently in custody as investigators look into what may have prompted the shooting including the possibility of self-defense.

I saw another article about a shooter, but at that time they didn’t say who the shooter was.
It is tragic that it turned out to be a policeman.
“self defense”
Did the other guy shoot first?
someone refused to get up from the loveseat for sale.
There are literally dozens of ways that self- defense justifies firing first.
Prolly depends on whether the deceased was another budding young rocket scientist
You’re justified in many cases using a firearm to defend yourself even if the other person does not have one. Knives, clubs, disparity of force due to age or infirmity. Somebody gets the better of you into a fight and is choking you into unconsciousness. There is no legal concept that somebody else must fire first before you can discharge a firearm in self-defense.
While you are shopping at Costco?
4 people were shot, and there is no mention that they were bystanders. So did four guys jump on one?
Yeah, nobody could ever pull a knife, grab a blunt object like a hammer, or three or four people ganging up on somebody to strangle or beat the life out of them. Nobody could ever do that at a Costco. /s
(I'm generally pro-police, but it had been getting easier and easier to find fault the last several years)
This report says the gunman was taken into custody =>
“One person was killed and two others were injured when a gunman opened fire inside a Costco store in Southern California, authorities said. The suspected gunman was taken into custody and hospitalized. Police have not identified him.”
Since it is Costco, I expect there to be video of the incident. Should go a long way to determine who’s right and who’s wrong.

These words make Internal Affairs feel triggered to exonerate...
And 300,000,000 more if you're a cop.
When defense is the the highly subjective, "I felt threatened," there are few ways to gainsay it.
Me too, but the amount of vile interactions seems to be decreasing in the past couple years.
From the LaTimes:
Witnesses described seeing at least three injured people being taken out of the store, and television footage showed an array of ambulances and law enforcement on scene.
Witnesses said a man with a Mohawk haircut was arguing with a woman with a child inside the store when the shots were fired.
So was it an off-duty cop intervene in some guy busily shooting other people in the store?
Good point. You’re probably right that there is some kind of video
