Workers at Volkswagens plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, voted Friday night against forming a factory-wide union, handing a setback to the United Auto Workers efforts to gain a foothold among foreign auto facilities in the South.
The vote of hourly workers began Wednesday and concluded Friday. Preliminary results show 833 employees voted against representation and 776 voted for it, the German automaker said in a statement. VW said about 93% of the roughly 1,700 eligible employees voted.
Our employees have spoken, Frank Fischer, president and CEO of Volkswagen Chattanooga, said in the company statement.
He said results are pending certification by the National Labor Relations Board and legal review. Fischer said the company looks forward to continuing our close cooperation with elected officials and business leaders in Tennessee.
Volkswagen has union representation at all of its other major plants worldwide.

EXCELLENT!
Yes!
They rejected it five years ago too, with 712 voting against and 626 voting for, which is a wider margin than this vote and 271 fewer voters than now.
Someone has to pay for the stuffed suits at uaw headquarters.
geed for them
good*
Don’t worry, they’ll keep voting until the workers realize what the correct vote is
.
WHOO HOO!!!!
Another dem supporting organization shut down.
Yee-Haw you hillbilly volunteers!
UAW has tried and failed to unionize several of the “trans-plants” for years. Southerners don’t like labor unions - that is especially so with the UAW which drove the domestic auto manufacturers into the ground. Everybody can see what its turned Detroit into.
And our decision to flee SoCal for Eadt Tennessee is validated yet again.
Congratulations, Free Thinkers of Chattanooga VW.
Of course the union scum will seek another vote and another, until the workers get it “right”.
Good for them.
Management needs to lay off the pro union workers, but I think that’s against federal labor laws. That needs to change.
excellent, Also just to note the UAW has also tried to get into the NISSAN plant in Smyrna, Tn over it existence since it was built a long time ago. I think they have had a half a dozen votes on it over about ?40 years since that plant was built.
The bad thing is that there are so many good jobs here that non-Southerners are moving here for the jobs. Most are probably fine but some get hired that bring their pro-union attitudes (and other attitudes) with them. Local cities are constantly building housing and can't keep up with the influx. Some cities infrastructure can't keep up with the increased traffic. Our economies are growing by leaps and bounds. As long as our Southern values aren't compromised I'm all for the growth and hope all of these new citizens adjust to us and don't try to make us like what they left.
$800 million and the union thugs don’t get a penny; sounds like great news to me.
