AWESOME!! Thanks man. On it as I type!
The NY Times travel writer used to sub for the regular writer on rainy days at Aqueduct and Belmont.
He always bet on the longshot and 2nd-longshot in each 9-race card ($18 total).
It was uncanny how often those horses won.
One of my favorite bets is to avoid one of the two favored horses then take the other and make boxed exactas (1-2, 2-1) ($2 boxed exacta costs $4) of other horses and boxed trifectas (1-2-3, 2-3-1, 3-2-1, 2-1-3, 1-3-2, 3-1-2). A $2 boxed trifecta costs $12. A $1 boxed trifecta costs $6.
Watch out for the leading jockey and 2nd-leading jockey riding long shots.
Mostly, have fun and enjoy the sunshine and the horses.
Copied and pasted your post for future reference also :)
Getting excited about this.
My life needed some excitement!
Never did in younger years :(
Off to the races!!
Great sandwiches, beer, and $0.50 bets and you are literally off to the races.
Never been to morning workouts. Id like to. Next season. Gd willing there will be a next season. Our fossilized Senator (the one who has arthritic jaw hinges so doesnt give the best bjs) is now shrieking about shutting down horse racing....
You could have done something called (IIRC) an exacta box. For example, place a bet that horse 15 will win with horse 7 second AND a bet that horse 7 will win with horse 15 second. It costs twice the exacta but you'll never miss out by having your horses come in 2-1, thereby losing a big payout.
On a nice day, at a pretty track, it's fun for a few hours.
No it was 2 races back to back. You had to pick the 2 horses in order, I suppose you could have boxed them, but I didn’t. If you had a winning ticket on that one then your ticket on the 2nd race was marked that you had done so. If in the 2nd race you also correctly picked the 1st & 2nd place horses correctly you won the bid exacta or whatever it was called.. But you had to have had winning tickets in both races. I didn’t have the same 2 numbers for both races.
This is more complicated than I knew Thanks for telling me about it.
