Wendys has a commercial where a group of stereotypical Italian Americans crowd around an idealized white person and act crudely and threateningly towards him. They eat like slobs, eating spaghetti and meatballs, acting suspiciously of him, and generally make buffoons of themselves. They wear gold chains, have a darker complexion than the white man, and have very ethnic features such as black hair and big noses. Most obviously, the premise is that they are all mobsters and that the white man is there to defeat their evil. At the end of the commercial, two very non-Italian looking federal agents are shown.
This commercial was about a parmesan Caesar salad, by the way. The commercial took Italian food, culturally appropriated it, weaponized it, and attacked Italian Americans with it. The media is not covering this outrageous commercial. In fact, there is a civil rights group on Facebook that gets attacked, both by Italians and non-Italians, in very hateful language, just for pointing these kinds of issues out to the general public. Facebook, quick to ban right-wing haters, seems to be fine with the Italophobia...

“White is a color”
We are “people of pallor”.
She died before I was born so I don’t know exactly what she looked like, but from black and white pictures from when she was young, she was quite pretty.
Unfortunately, I inherited the red hair (I have “hazel” brownish-green eyes). I say unfortunately, because I am very prone to skin cancer now. Folks think I get it from my Irish side, but it’s actually the Italian side.
The Romans were not “Italians”. Already stated.
Note how much of that “genius” disappeared after the Roman Empire. Gradual build-up over the millenia just as in the rest of Europe.
Good catch.
Like all of Europe, Italy makes “great” cars - and crap cars. Never any regular middle-roaders for the “masses” including (true, not blue-collar) middle class.
Unless you are an albino, we are all people of color, especially after getting sunburned.
So now Italians can be privileged whites.
I dated a Sicilian chick many years my junior who was blonde and blue eyed. She was very hot and cute, and extremely educated with multiple degrees, but got into the "clown" scene. Literally would get on stage with the big rubber nose, and it didn't work out.
I guess we're NOT all Bozos on this bus.
“Italian Americans are people of color. We deserve to be socially considered as people of color, we deserve to be legally given affirmative action, and definitely deserve to have these stereotypes be taken more seriously.”
Italians are NOT people of color. We don’t want or need affirmative action, and in fact every Italian I know would be outraged by the very suggestion we are not white. This guy needs to be careful who he spews this BS to as they might punch his teeth down his throat.
Red haired, blue eyed Italian here. People think I’m Irish till they here my Bronx Italian accent.
LOL!
I’m Italian on both sides. Neapolitan and Sicilian. If I’m a person of color, where’s my reparations money?
That’s a FUNNY commercial! I love it. All it’s saying is that Italians know food and that ain’t Italian or food.
It manages to sell Wendy’s by doing the opposite. Brilliant! It makes you want to go try it yourself, if you’re not Italian that is.
And I find the guys gawgeous!
Ancient Firesign Theater reference.
Haven’t heard or read anyone (except Tony Soprano) use the expression “moolinyan” in a long time...Army buddies from Philly used it alatime...
My bride of 37 years was a blonde haired, blue eyed, full-blooded Italian woman...My in-laws say that makes me (Irish-German ancestry) an IBM...Italian-By-Marriage...
My family background is 100 percent Polish.
But based on many friendships and, particularly, the many durable Polish-Italian marriages in my extended family, I find myself from time to time identifying as a paisan just a bit.
You read the history and there are some interesting connections between Poland and Italy.
Did you know that Garibaldi’s Redshirts had a significant Polish contingent, including senior officers?
White is ALL colors. Therefore, white is the most diverse color and should be honored and respected for that.
GTF out of here.
And while you’re at it name all the cities in Italy and Sicily that you’ve been to.
Probably a trailer living, banjo playing redneck :)
But I mean that in a good way :)
Italian derogatory expressions are usually funny like that one. How about “ziti” for bridegrooms.
