Wendys has a commercial where a group of stereotypical Italian Americans crowd around an idealized white person and act crudely and threateningly towards him. They eat like slobs, eating spaghetti and meatballs, acting suspiciously of him, and generally make buffoons of themselves. They wear gold chains, have a darker complexion than the white man, and have very ethnic features such as black hair and big noses. Most obviously, the premise is that they are all mobsters and that the white man is there to defeat their evil. At the end of the commercial, two very non-Italian looking federal agents are shown.
This commercial was about a parmesan Caesar salad, by the way. The commercial took Italian food, culturally appropriated it, weaponized it, and attacked Italian Americans with it. The media is not covering this outrageous commercial. In fact, there is a civil rights group on Facebook that gets attacked, both by Italians and non-Italians, in very hateful language, just for pointing these kinds of issues out to the general public. Facebook, quick to ban right-wing haters, seems to be fine with the Italophobia...

So you’re going with the ridiculous (insane) idea that “ At one time 1/4 of the Roman Empire was Jewish” ?!!
Actually, just stirring up trouble. Italians unlike the English and the French actually get riled up and defend their culture, while the other p*ssy europeans apologize for inventing civilization. I have been to 36 countries btw, and I am a FJ40 driving redneck though the desert dwelling kind
I am glad you have a sense of humor :)
36 COUNTRIES?!?!?!!!?!
So you are 50 times more cultured than me.
BTW, the other four boroughs call we Staten Islanders rednecks.
And we are damned proud of it
None of the few first I found show Italians as tops. Not far, and generally within statistical equivalence, but not once listed as #1. (Big shock: Germans are usually 1 or 2.)
And you cannot convince me Romans ARE Italians, per se. lots of Greeks moved into the south even in that time and I think that is the primary source of the classic Italian. But Im no scholar. Just casual dribs and drabs over many years.
I know the history of Italy quite well, from Etruscan, through Greek colonies, the Roman Republic, Empire, Germanic invasions, Holy Roman Empire, Saracen incursions, papal schism, rise of city states, eventual unification, the world wars, post war history and modern times.
Italians were never supplanted and replaced by any group to a degree that they were no longer descendants of the earliest days.
Of course there was influence and intermingling, but many Italian families and regions can trace their foundations back certainly to medieval and Rennaisance times. Heck they are living in the same buildings and attending the same churches.
But are they all just the straight line great grandkids of a resident of the Roman Empire without any “outsiders blood”? I wouldn’t go that far.
Then again the Empire encompassed all of Western Europe and more, and Italy drew upon many of its peoples from throughout Europe, Africa and Asia. In that sense I’d say current Italians most certainly derive from their Roman Empire ancestors.
Also ex post facto, ex libris, praxis, etc.
I dont know where you are trying to go with this.
I have no problem with Italians, generally. I guess I tend to defend against braggadocio, aNd inflation of what ethnicities have done,or not done.
I wont credit Italy with Roman accomplishments. There is next to nothing actually tying Italians with Romans, sans the peninsula location. Thats like saying we Americans did the things the Indians had here.
I have my own biases. Part of my reactions are because in my view, there are basically 3 white ethnicities that have been majorly celebrated and protected, in many ways, in this last century. Irish, Italians and Jews. Going by movies and other programs back decades, basically all we get is how great they all are, that its become almost assumed everyone will agree, including a stupid holiday for one. Meanwhile others ignored at best, even when they are the majority of the non-English immigration, ever in this country. Seems a lot of braggadocio (not quite for Jews, but they get plenty of sympathetic stories told about them).
In Milan, in a cafeteria,
I sat with you, amico mio.
And you knew no German and I no Italian
In the Milan cafeteria.Over Cinzano, you said softly, amore.
I answered, si, si, signore.
In the background, an upright piano was softly playing
In the Milan cafeteriaAnd we needed neither German nor Italian
In the Milan cafeteria.
More of mocking of New Jersey morons than Italians.
Of course I did and “ITALIPHOBIA” is a new, stupid, madeup, PC
idiocy.
For the record. I am not Italian I am Italipino since I marred a Filipina.
Perhaps not 1/4, but far more than you realize!
Yep, Italy and Ireland are transients in PI(I)GS family. They have a tendency to elect responsible government pulling them up once in a while.
As for the topic one needs to start with anthropology. It seems like obsession to seek a minority trait at every corner but the Italians are genetically white and nothing would change it. So are the ‘brown’ people. Arabs and the rest of North Africans and Indians are white too. The Iranians are the whitest people in a gene pool ever who are simply misfortunate to live too far south and tanned. The aryans are even called after them.
Italy became a unified nation, instead of a bunch of city states in 1861.
Prior to that, even parts of it was owned and ruled by the Kings or Queens of other European nations or principalities.
If you're talking about Sciliy, Greeks and Phoenicians were there prior to the Romans moved into areas inhabited by the Etruscans and Sabine tribes.
Damned straight, that you "are no scholar" and no, you don't know this history.
SPOT ON!
Most movies, from the silents to the talkies of the vast majority of the 20 century did NOT, "celebrate" the Irish, Italians, nor Jews! Neither did anything on T.V.!
I suggest a hearty diet of watching NOTHING but the movies on TCM, for you, for the next 6 months to a year.
“... the Empire encompassed all of Western Europe and more ...”
We agree.
(sorry; still waiting on that IQ data)
So you are still going with the ridiculous idea that at one time 1/4 of the Roman Empire was Jewish?!
(yes I know what you don’t seem to)
Frankly, I can't dumb down my replies to you any further; sorry.
OK, Mr. Wizard(not) 1/4, 1/8 or what?
Or can you only make stupid claims?
