Cosmetics retail chain Sephora will reportedly close all of its brick-and-mortar U.S. stores, distribution centers and corporate offices Wednesday for a company-wide diversity training program.
The closures come after R&B music artist SZA, who is black, said in April she was racially profiled by employees at a Sephora store in Southern California, according to a Reuters report.
In a post on Twitter about the incident, SZA said a Sephora employee she identified as “Sandy” called security to watch her and make sure she was not stealing.
Sephora spokesperson Emily Shapiro told Reuters that the company-wide closures of Sephora stores is not in “response to any one event.”
In addition to the company’s “inclusivity workshops” scheduled for Wednesday, Sephora is rolling out a marketing campaign called “We Belong to Something Beautiful” aimed at promoting diversity.
SZA reportedly used to work at Sephora in the skin-care department before her successful music career took off.

My niece works for a Sephora in Massachusetts. I’ll have to call her tonight and find out what this bs ‘training’ was like.

Out here in N. California, the closed strip malls, Kmarts and malls just stay vacant or part vacant.
Walmart closed a big store in an unfriendly liberal town and opened a twice as big store a decade ago in a friendly town/county five miles away. That closed store is still vacant and the other stores in that area manage to barely hang on.
The unfriendly liberal town went to Walmart and got a smaller Walmart store to open in its limits. So they are keeping the sales tax and employees working.
I’m talking about the wide open shoplifting that will happen in that store now.
Wonder how much shrink costs Sephora annually...

I looked up this artist on Apple Music to see what her music was like. I actually was hearing the song that you posted lyrics from when I read your post. Wow. Just wow. I am getting old and have turned into “Get off my lawn” guy. I went back to the Country Hits: 1983 playlist that I was enjoying before I went exploring. That was a culture shock. Thank goodness for Vern Gosden and Ricky Skaggs.
The shops near us are like ghost towns. These vacant stores and huge rent prices have to be by design.
Tomorrow would be a good say to shop lift at Sephora.
