A teenager survived a shark attack off a North Carolina beach Sunday, but doctors had to amputate her left leg, according to the family.
Paige Winter, 17, was in the ocean off Fort Macon State Park when she was attacked by a shark just after noon Sunday, according to a statement from Vidant Medical Center.

I had a similar experience on Nonoc Island in the Philippines in the mid 70s. Reefs so shallow you could just flutter your fingertips to skim over them...and hope to God you avoided getting scratched on the Fire Coral. The sheer volume of tropical fish and the color of the anemones was beyond description or imagination. Then funny thing is I never thought once about man-eaters until you just raised the thought!

Thermally polluted water, such as runoff from power plants
Aquariums
Soil, including indoor dust
A woman near ft Mac Alberta was singled out and killed on a site with over a hundred people. It was that time of month. A black bear came right at her, five guys couldn’t even get it off her.

Sound advice. Best to stay out of the ocean altogether. It’s a sharks living room and buffet. I live on The Jersey Shore. We’re not yet under way here with the summer season and we usually don’t get shark attacks but the critters are sure off the beaches here. There’s a 16 foot female Great White by the name of ‘’Mary’’ who made a splash here about two years ago. Seems she likes to prowl around here and up to the waters off Long Island , NY and back. Hope she stays out of town this summer.
Life is indeed easy when you simply make up numbers out of thin air to make people afraid.

Based upon the limited information, this attack appears to be the work of a Bull Shark; however, Atlantic Beach holds the dubious distinction of being the sole location in NC to have had a documented, fatal attack by a Great White Shark (1957).
