Full title:

Cat sparks $7,500 rescue mission after getting stuck on bridge six days; mission fails, pet gets bored and wanders home

Hatty, 5, became trapped on the Royal Albert Bridge, which connects Plymouth and Saltash, on Friday, and firefighters spent around five hours trying to get her down in an ordeal costing $7,500.

The train system which operates the bridge even planned to close the tracks to rescue her, while the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) was also present.

But when firefighters had decided to give up for the day, vowing to return Thursday, the cat, who had been missing for two weeks before turning up on the bridge, returned home on Wednesday night, according to the Plymouth Herald.

Kirsty Howden, Hatty’s owner, said the cat walked into the garden of her home in Saltash.

She said the cat had just “strolled past fire and media crews”. ...”

“She is a bit skinny and smelly, very vocal and has now headed upstairs and put herself to bed.”

Not mush to the cat’s owner. I and a lot of people I know love animals. I always forget that there are people like you out there. It says everything about a person
when they care about non human creatures. Nothing sexier than a man who is tough & manly, but a marshmallow for animals.

Probably in the sixties when we realized
we needn’t be assholes about the lives
of non-humans.

It’s not about bein assholes. It’s about knowing the difference between a human being and an animal. I understand that PETA feels differently, but I don’t take them seriously anyway, except when the chicks get naked.

I wonder if Brunel would have something pithy to say about shutting down a rail line to rescue a moggy from his bridge?

Did it ever occur to you that it’s possible to know the difference between humans and animals, and still have compassion for animals in distress?

spending tax monies from hardworking people so "save" a cat...

Sitting in the firehouse or rescuing a cat, there's no cost differential since they're salaried and not paid by the mission...LOL!

Yes. But that’s not the issue. Using tax dollars to save cats is only acceptable in Pleasantville. IN the real world, that is not what firefighters and rescue are for. They are for saving human beings and their property. Part of that property would be their pets and livestock, but it is for the sake of the owner who could lose valuable livestock or a beloved pet. It’s not for the animal itself. That is what individuals and volunteers do. Not one amendment to the constitution or the constitution itself speaks to the welfare of animals, other than as the property of humans.

So, if you want to risk your life or spend thousands to rescue a cat, feel free. I’ll watch. And don’t expect to be able to force me to pay for it.

HAHAHA!

About 30 years ago there were a bunch of animal rights activists in downtown Seattle protesting a fur shop with a large crowd gathered around. I went in just to bug them. When I came out without a fur, they said, “thank you for not buying fur.” I told them I put it on layaway. ;)

But I tried to walk away but couldn’t resist. I turned around and said to them, “I can see the movie Bambi had a strong influence on you as a child.” and smiled.

That started it. I thought I’d get chewed up and spit out logically, but shockingly, they had nothing but emotion and could not support anything they said. And some of them were in their 50’s and sixties.

Exactly.

Jeez, I can see a tree in one of the photos, that the cat could easily have jumped to. Idiots!

Seven? My God, we have to keep two food dishes, an electric drinking fountain, and three litter boxes going just to keep up with five. Of course, the male did pick up the habit of actually peeing in the toilet. He hangs his tuckus over the edge of the bowl. There's a sight to behold. Now, if he'd just learn to flush.........*chuckle*
