1955 brought a whole new appearance for cars.
1956, in all of the Big 3, brought an added
piece of chrome here and there, but nothing very new.

1957 moved the needle around a little.
I liked 1958, but my favorite car of
the era was purchased by a friend of
mine, the 1959 cat’s eye Impala coupe,
white over black.

He had his lowered and side pipes
installed with Smitty mufflers.
For a kid in high school, he was sui generis.

Hey? What the hell’s that under that hood? Is that what they used to call and engine?

Some of the youngster mechanics nowadays would fall over dead if they popped the hood on that where they could actually see the engine. AND WORK ON IT.

Wonderful memories for me. The first new car my father ever bought was a 1956 Chevy Bel Air. I was 16 at the time and got to drive it a lot. I tried to talk him into buying a hardtop model, but he went for the sedan.
