The Daks Over Normandy event on the 75th anniversary of D-Day is going to be the event of a lifetime! In total, there are (currently) 37 confirmed DC-3s and C-47s.

A soldier firmly requests that the crowd "maintain a level of silence and respect" at the Tomb of the Unknown solider because some people were laughing disruptively. He didn't yell but he certainly made sure his voice carried to the audience.

How long before some assclown “ demand” we erase this history? Thanks to those who rebuilt and made these airworthy.
Beginning around 1958, I would go to a high spot in my parents pasture and watch DC-3s of Southern Airlines fly to and from Eglin and Atlanta.
Also see F-100s, etc. Later F-104s, F-105s and then F-4s, Diving and stafing at a bombing range not too far away. I would see those planes dive then a few seconds later hear the roar of a Vulcan and often the thump and sound of bombs.
I would then see the fighters soar to a high altitude then repeat or another plane do it.
What a great old plane.
I met one of the guys who was (at the time) working on, “That’s All Brother,” for the CAF when I went to go see Dunkirk on film at an IMAX theater. We had a pretty interesting conversation before and after the movie. I sure hope he gets to ride along for this one.
Those photos are great. The beautiful aircraft make them great.
I occasionally see a DC3 carrying cargo.
Kind of sad they had to rename Confederate Air Force to Commemorative Air Force, though.
My father was a C-47 pilot in WW2. He flew in the CBI, where he was awarded the DFC, and North Africa theaters. He had rotated back to the States before 6/6/44.

Most often the “disrespect” is inadvertant and due more to ignorance of proper decorum...To the Tomb Guards however, because the Tomb is a sacred place of honor that all are expected and will be required to respect, they are serious as a heart attack about their mission...This is NOT theater for the benefit of the public; it’s real...
People tend to believe a display like the Guard made in the vid is all “for show” and usually it is, because most often that’s all it takes...But the rifle is a fully functional M14 (he qualified with one), the bayonet is real (and he knows how to use it), and a Tomb Guard is fully authorized to get physical (and it has happened) with anyone attempting to desecrate The Tomb...A butt stroke with an M14 is not something I’d ever want to receive...

From a former Old Guard troop...Never walked “the mat”, but had friends who did, and I’m proud to have served in a line company...
I learned recently that I happened to have known someone who had been a medic on Omaha beach.
I’ve met two men who each served in WWII, Korea, and Nam.
I have a great uncle who parachuted into Normandy on D-Day but I can’t find out anything about him.
I had a great uncle who was a bomber navigator. Earned a Silver Star. Not sure what for. When we were going through my dad’s effects, we found a news story with a photo of a Colonel presenting it posthumously to his parents at their home.
Yup.
Keep looking , if you know what unit he was with like the 502nd or the 506 or 505 PIR you can narrow it down and you may find a manifest or Co. roster with his name, a lot of information was lost in a records fire back in the 50’s but there is still a lot out there. I had a guy over in France give me info on my Dad who was with the 101st at Carentan and Holland and The Bulge [remember the movie Band Of Brothers], he actually had a Co. roster from the 502 PIR with his name on it.
